Do you want to work in a global humanitarian organization, practice your communication skills to a worldwide audience within the humanitarian sector and provide support to senior management? Then you might be Danish Refugee Council’s new intern for the fall semester 2026.

Who are we?

You will be part of the Secretary General’s office in the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), which is a small dynamic team supporting the Secretary General, the Executive Management Team, the Board of Directors, and the Council of DRC. The team works closely with the whole organisation in Denmark and across the world. You will in particular work closely with the communications team in Copenhagen.

About the internship

The internship offers the opportunity to:

  • Gain experience working for an international humanitarian organization, and get the chance to collaborate with various colleagues across headquarters and country offices around the world as well as DRC senior management.
  • Work independently with different tasks related to communications (both external and internal communication), management support, and other tasks relevant to your profile, interests and area of study.
  • Strengthen your communication, writing and coordination skills, while gaining substantial knowledge about the humanitarian sector and work of DRC in Denmark and around the world.

Responsibilities

You will be contributing to a variety of tasks related to communication and management support, including:

  • Support to various communication tasks for internal and external audiences, including drafting and editing news and publication for DRC platforms, SoMe posts, presentations, as well as background materials and briefs to senior management.
  • Planning of meetings and events, including logistical tasks.
  • Assistance with minutes from meetings and follow-up to action points.
  • Support the day-to-day work of the Secretary General’s Office, including administrative and financial tasks, as well as preparations of meetings and travels and follow-up to these.

We offer flexibility in the priorities, meaning that you have the possibility to influence the tasks subject to what is relevant for your area of study.

About you

You should be able to work both individually and together with other colleagues. All employees and interns in DRC should master DRC's core competencies: communicating, taking the lead, collaborating, striving for excellence and demonstrating integrity.

You should be able to meet the following requirements:

  • Have good communication and writing skills and an interest in strengthening these.
  • Have good collaboration and interpersonal skills, be able to work systematically and independently, have an eye for details and strive to get the job done.
  • Be enlisted at a university (this is a prerequisite for the internship), pursuing a bachelor’s or master's degree in communications, journalism, development studies, political science or another relevant field.
  • Be fluent in both written and spoken English. Professional proficiency in Danish is a strong asset but not a requirement.
  • Be effective in the use of MS Office and preferably MS 365 (Sharepoint etc.).

We offer

Contract length: 4-6 months (between August 2026 and January 2027) subject to study requirements.
