Your team
Within the The Aviation Transformation Directorate, the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (EIH) carries out research, innovation and simulation activities to help improve European aviation performance, safety and sustainability, bridging the gap between R&D and operations. The EIH also addresses emerging new technologies as well as deployment of drones and urban air mobility systems.
You will join the Centre of Expertise (CoE) and play a pivotal role in designing, developing and implementing software solutions as part of EUROCONTROL’s innovation hub simulation platforms and projects.
Your role
Your role will be to:
- Provide specialised technical support in planning, designing, and executing integration, verification, and system-level tests to ensure system reliability, functionality, and compliance with requirements and standards.
- Monitor system performance to identify, document, escalate, and resolve incidents and bugs through root cause analysis and effective mitigation solutions.
- Install, configure, and integrate system components on test platforms while collaborating with teams to troubleshoot and resolve integration issues.
- Assess the impact of changes, manage version control, and support the planning and execution of system updates and releases to ensure smooth transitions.
- Assist in configuring, testing, and deploying system updates and migrations, ensuring readiness and addressing any identified issues.
- Gather technical and functional requirements and contribute to the definition of specifications.
- Identify, analyse, and report risks and issues while providing recommendations to enhance system reliability and mitigate potential challenges.
- Organise, validate, and manage data for testing, simulation, and analysis to support accurate and effective system evaluations.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including test scenarios and reports, while providing actionable insights and updates.
- Assist in the development of new tools, methodologies, and workflows to enhance testing efficiency, system quality, and overall productivity.
- Provide technical support and training to users of the systems, responding to inquiries and guiding them in using system features; contribute to training materials and conduct presentations as needed to support end-users and internal teams.
- Develop knowledge and skills in field of expertise under the guidance of more senior staff.
- Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.
Required qualifications, experience & competencies
- Candidates must fulfil the following educational and professional experience requirements:
- Post secondary education in a relevant domain (e.g. Computer Science, (Aerospace) Engineering or any other related field), meeting European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level 5 or higher followed by a minimum of five years relevant professional experience.
- Holding a Bachelor’s degree would be an advantage
- Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
- Experience in users’ needs identification and writing technical software specifications.
- Experience in mission critical systems, in particular Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems and simulators and their application in research and operations would be an asset.
- Knowledge in software verification and validation.
- Knowledge in CI/CD pipelines and tools (Azure DevOps).
- Knowledge of Linux, virtual and cloud environment, shell scripting.
- Technical drafting skills (English).
- Analytical thinking: you analyse information and you are able to identify relationships.
- Planning and organising: you know how to plan and adapt as required.
- Teamwork: you foster teamwork.
- Communication: you are able to foster two-way communication.
- Ability to work in a multinational and multicultural environment.

- The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1. The selected candidate will be required to become basic user of French at level A1 before the end of the probation period.

Internal staff appointed for a determined period
- Retain their current type of appointment duration.
- Continue under their existing appointment duration, as appointment durations are not cumulative.
- The duration of their appointment will therefore not restart upon selection to the new post, i.e. the remaining duration of their current determined appointment continues to apply.
- Renewal(s): This appointment may be renewed several times, but its total duration, including all renewal periods, may not exceed nine (9) years.
- Conversion: Conversion to an undetermined duration appointment is possible where all of the following cumulative conditions are met: the post is confirmed as being of a lasting nature; the staff member has completed at least five years of service; the staff member’s performance has been satisfactory; and the conversion is in the interests of the service. Conversion is therefore not automatic.
- Retain their current type of contract duration.
- If the assignment is extended, they will continue in the post in accordance with the applicable rules.
- If the assignment is not extended and/or the duties are not confirmed as being of a lasting nature, they will be transferred to another post corresponding to their “previous” type of post, job level, and function group.
- The selected candidate must successfully complete a probationary period of nine (9) months before being established in the post.
- The selected candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level.
- Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
