Contextual Background

IRC has been operational in Nigeria since 2012, initially responding to flooding in Kogi State. In 2014, IRC expanded its presence to Adamawa State to address humanitarian needs in Northeast Nigeria through a multi-sectoral approach.

Today, IRC Nigeria operates a country office in Abuja and field offices in Mubi and Yola

(Adamawa State), Maiduguri and Monguno (Borno State), and Damaturu (Yobe State). Programs focus on primary healthcare, nutrition, environmental health, women’s protection and empowerment, child protection, education, and food security & livelihoods.

Job Overview

The Maintenance Officer is responsible for ensuring the effective maintenance, repair, and functionality of IRC facilities, equipment, and assets. The role involves implementing preventive maintenance plans, conducting inspections, and addressing technical issues to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Maintenance Officer, with technical oversight from the Logistics Manager and Supply Chain Coordinator, the Maintenance Officer will:

Maintenance & Operations

•       Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce equipment downtime. 

•       Prepare and submit proactive maintenance plans for IRC assets and facilities. 

•       Conduct routine inspections and perform necessary repairs. 

•       Carry out installation, servicing, and repair of HVAC systems including air conditioners, refrigerators, and water dispensers. 

•       Maintain electrical systems, plumbing, furniture, and structural fittings (doors, windows, roofs). 

•       Ensure maintenance of power systems including generators, solar systems, and grid connections. 

•       Manage generator fueling and maintain accurate fuel consumption records. 

•       Track service schedules for generators and solar inverter systems. 

•       Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inventory, and expenses. 

•       Ensure proper documentation and filing in line with IRC standards. 

•       Coordinate diesel distribution to IRC facilities within and outside Maiduguri. 

•       Respond promptly to maintenance requests and ensure timely resolution. 

•       Prepare weekly and monthly reports on fuel usage and maintenance activities. 

•       Support budgeting for maintenance operations. 

•       Supervise third-party contractors and vendors. 

•       Ensure compliance with safety standards and mitigate identified risks. 

•       Stay informed of relevant local laws and regulations. 

•       Perform any additional duties as assigned. 

Compliance

•       Identify and report procurement deviations in line with IRC policies. 

•       Ensure adherence to IRC Way policies by all staff. 

•       Support segregation of duties within supply chain functions. 

•       Review supply chain reports and contribute to improvement plans. 

•       Report potential policy violations to the Logistics Manager. 

•       Support implementation of compliance and performance improvement initiatives.

Key Working Relationships

Job Requirements

Education

•     Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related technical field. 

Experience

•       Minimum of 3 years’ experience in humanitarian supply chain or maintenance roles. 

•       Strong integrity and interpersonal skills. 

•       Ability to work in challenging environments. 

•       Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). 

•       Strong technical and engineering knowledge. 

•       Professional certification with relevant regulatory bodies is an advantage.
