About this position
We are looking for a strategic communications consultant. As a communications consultant, you will support the development and implementation of the Institutions for Development department’s (IFD) communications strategy and craft high-impact narratives that showcase the sector’s work. You will also collaborate closely with stakeholders across the IDB, coordinate with IFD management, and work in partnership with the IDB’s Communications Division (DCC) to ensure alignment with corporate communications. This includes contributing to media and press relations, supporting digital channels and platforms, upholding editorial governance and content quality, ensuring compliance with brand management and visual standards, and promoting knowledge dissemination and internal communications. Additionally, the role requires strong storytelling skills to effectively communicate the sector’s impact. You will work under the supervision of IFD management and in coordination with DCC.
You will work in IFD, which works with countries in Latin America and the Caribbean to strengthen institutions and create conditions for sustainable economic growth. IFD supports governments in designing and implementing effective public policies, strengthening public finances, and fostering transparent, predictable regulatory frameworks that enable markets to function efficiently and mobilize investment for development. IFD’s work spans key areas including fiscal management and public finance, governance and integrity, justice, citizen security and the rule of law, digital government and digital public infrastructure, and the development of efficient financial markets.
What you’ll do
- Plan, design, implement, and monitor the IFD Sector’s communications strategy, including the dissemination of knowledge products and strategic initiatives.
- Ensure alignment of IFD communications with the IDB Group’s corporate communications strategy and institutional priorities.
- Develop and implement high‑impact narratives on IFD’s work for internal and external audiences, adapting content for multiple channels such as events, presentations, websites, blogs, social media, and digital platforms.
- Coordinate and manage a calendar of high‑impact communications activities in collaboration with communications focal points across IFD divisions and DCC.
- Support the design and execution of communications plans for strategic and flagship initiatives within the Sector.
- Serve as the main liaison with DCC for the implementation of IFD’s communications activities, including dissemination of studies and press releases; preparation of speeches, talking points, and executive briefing materials; and coordination of communications training for IFD staff and selected partners.
- Draft, edit, and coordinate a wide range of communications products, including press releases, speeches, talking points, op‑eds, video scripts, social media content, and other materials that highlight the scope, results, and impact of IFD’s work.
- Coordinate graphic design, audiovisual production, and digital support, including the design and maintenance of the IFD intranet portal and internal communications products such as newsletters.
- Ensure compliance with IDB corporate identity policies (AM‑102) and brand guidelines across all communications products, publications, and events.
- Support communications for senior IFD management, including monitoring public opinion and emerging issues relevant to the IDB Group and keeping the Sector Manager informed of developments that may affect institutional objectives or operations.
What you'll need
- Education Master’s degree in communications, public relations, business and/or marketing or equivalent.
- Experience: From 5 to 9 years of relevant experience, preferably in multilateral organizations or matrixed, international organizations in the area of communications strategy and management.
- Languages: Proficiency in English and Spanish, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Type of contract and duration
International consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility).
