About this position
We are looking for a proactive and results-oriented Financial Sector Senior Specialist to contribute to the division’s efforts in the design and implementation of programs aimed at strengthening financial regulatory and supervisory frameworks, financial stability, and payment and settlement systems across Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Connectivity, Markets and Finance Division (CMF) strengthens public-sector financial institutions, supports the development of sound capital markets and financial market infrastructures to mobilize long-term financing and catalyze private investment. We emphasize innovative financial structures and solutions that advance inclusive, sustainable development across Latin America and the Caribbean, at the time we support market integrity, systemic risk management, and supervisory capacity building, as key enablers of inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
What you’ll do
- Lead or co-lead the origination, design and processing of sovereign-guaranteed loans, investment grants, and technical-cooperation operations focused on strengthening financial regulation, supervision, financial stability frameworks, and financial market infrastructures.
- Conduct technical, institutional, economic, and risk analyses of financial sector reforms aligned with international standards and contribute to the preparation of key operational documents, including loan proposals, policy matrices, monitoring reports, and project completion reports.
- Provide policy and regulatory advice to central banks, financial supervisory authorities, and ministries of finance on risk-based supervision, macroprudential policy, bank resolution frameworks, and oversight of systemic payment and settlement systems, among other relevant areas. This includes participation in high-level technical dialogues.
- Contribute to analytical work, financial sector diagnostics, and knowledge products related to financial regulation, supervision, fintech regulation, and digital financial infrastructure.
- Promote cross-sector collaboration within the IDB Group, sharing knowledge and ensuring alignment with other Bank activities and initiatives.
What you'll need
• Education: Master's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in economics, finance, law or a related field relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
• Experience: At least 5 years (8 years preferably) of relevant professional and international experience in financial regulation, supervision, central banking, financial stability, or payment systems. Experience working with central banks, supervisory authorities, or multilateral development institutions is highly desirable. Demonstrated knowledge of international regulatory and supervisory standards and experience applying them in emerging-market contexts. Experience in Latin America and the Caribbean is highly desirable.
• Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

• Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
• Staff: International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
