Why NRC?

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent humanitarian organisation helping people forced to flee. Our 15,000 staff work in crises across 40 countries, providing life-saving and long-term assistance to millions of people every year.

Watch this short video to see NRC in action.

We contribute to the development of policy aiming to protect the rights of the displaced and we call for increased humanitarian funding and engagement on processes that will generate structural changes in protection and assistance in the region.

Latin America and the Caribbean face a convergence of humanitarian crises that have intensified over the past year. Violence, organised crime, forced displacement, climate-related shocks, and restrictive migration policies have significantly increased protection risks. The region is the second most disaster-prone globally, after Asia-Pacific, with increasingly frequent and severe hurricanes, droughts, and floods.

These dynamics have displaced approximately 21 million people, exposing vulnerable populations to multiple human rights violations. Despite this, the region has been globally deprioritised, experiencing severe funding cuts and an increasing risk of long-term invisibility.

The LACRMD Coalition brings together 23 international organisations working across the region to promote and protect the rights of people affected by violence, conflict, and disasters. Its advocacy work is grounded in partnerships with coalition members, local, national, and regional organisations, and engagement in regional and international fora alongside UN agencies and NGO platforms.

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been a member of the Coalition since 2020 and, since January 2025, acts as the host organisation for the Coalition’s team and consultants.

We are looking for people who are passionate about helping refugees and people forced to flee.

Are you one of those people? If you are, NRC offers you the opportunity to:

  • do demanding and professional work, often in challenging contexts.

  • join a work culture that empowers every employee to share ideas and take responsibility.

  • be part of a welcoming and supportive community committed to human dignity.
