Overview of position

Established in 1951, Our client is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. Our client is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all and it does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Under the overall supervision of the Programme Manager of the Migrant Protection and Assistance (MPA) Unit and the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer, Project Associate will be responsible for reception, post-arrival and reintegration assistance of returning migrants under Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration in the Sub-Saharan Africa (MPRR-SSA) and other MPA related programmes. These deliverables include but not limited to pre-departure assistance of migrants, vulnerability assessment, referral for medical and MHPSS services and verification of vendors’ invoices prior to processing payments with the support of Programme Administrative Associate.

Role objectives

1.Assist the Programme Manager and National Programme Officer in setting up reintegration procedures, forms and database for the returning migrants.

Conduct interviews to verify family and clan links with applicant’s contacts (including clan leaders, identified family or clan members) in Banadir Region prior to return.

3. Arrange the logistical & operational activities/preparations needed for the post arrival and reception assistance of returning migrants through provision of onward transportation (OTA) to the returnees’ final destination and if security allows, accompany the returnees to the areas of origin as necessary.

4. Assist in providing counseling to returnees, early identification of special needs such as protections and health gaps and concerns and ensure effective referrals for specialized assistance in Banadir Region including Mogadishu and South Central Zone (SCZ)

5. Assist returnees in planning & implementing their preferred reintegration schemes; facilitate the procurement and delivery of reintegration support packages, support in planning payments to service providers and vendors and ensure the goods and services procured and delivered are of good quality.

6. Support in the collection, entry (digitizing and encoding into a database), ensuring accuracy and cleanliness of data, and preparing AVRR data for further processing, analysis and reporting.

7. If needs arise, support in liaising with the relevant government authorities for the establishment and effective running of mechanisms of coordinated implementation of referral networks and assistances that contribute to the sustainable reintegration of returnees and assistance to host/ communities of return.

8. Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

EXPERIENCE

Proven ability to establish and maintain strong working relations with relevant Government and Non-Governmental counterparts, international organizations, civil society or private sector entities.

Experience in the area of migration, refugees and reintegration of migrants and victims of trafficking preferably in Somalia.

Experience in working in an international, local or associated organization.

SKILLS

Knowledge of project and case management (with children, migration groups etc.)

Knowledge in migration issues in Somalia and Banadir and South-Central Zone (SCZ) in specific.

Knowledge of reintegration and referral pathways in transit areas including Mogadishu and SCZ


Knowledge in office package (Word, xl, ppt etc.)
