Communications & Knowledge Management Officer

BACKGROUND
IUCN being a knowledge based organization involves extensive use of Information and Communication Technologies. This position combines the integral role of ICTs with the communications and programme coordination units.
JOB DESCRIPTION
S/He will perform following tasks in coordination with the Line Manager:
1. COMMUNICATIONS:
Implementing the IUCN’s Communication Strategy, aiming at:
1.1 Facilitate in improving IUCN’s influence and brand recognition with Members, Partners, Donors and the public;
1.2 Working with programme teams to ensure effective communications are integrated into all project concepts, proposals, budgets and work plans;
1.3 Implementing strategies for effective knowledge management within and outside the IUCN secretariat;
1.4 Support in the strategic and annual planning of communications and external relations of IUCN Pakistan in coordination with regional and global communications;
1.5 Facilitate and guide IUCN Pakistan staff on communications, publication, knowledge management and media relations;
1.6 Plan and produce communications and outreach material, including IUCN corporate communications and programme related publications, documentaries and other communications tools in coordination with the Senior Management Team and Country Representative.
2.AS THE COMMUNICATION FOCAL POINT FOR THE IUCN PAKISTAN PROGRAMME:
2.1 Manage and ensure the IUCN branding, guidelines, and other communications policies and procedures are strictly adhered by all staff and consultants;
2.2 Ensure messages and products are aligned with project objectives and IUCN Thematic Programme Areas and Strategic Vision;
2.3 Manage all communication production in IUCN Pakistan to ensure quality and adherence to IUCN Guidelines;
2.4 Manage web content and digital resources;
2.5 Disseminate information from global and regional communications to national staff;
2.6 Contribute content to regional and global communications activities and products;
2.7 Monitor and evaluate communications activities and provide regular reporting to the Country Representative;
2.8 Facilitate and advise in audio visual work of IUCN Pakistan.
2.9 Plan and organize IUCN Pakistan visibility as per IUCN’s Communication Guidelines
3. COLLABORATE/ INTEGRATE WITH PROGRAMMATIC UNITS:
3.1 Manage the development and implementation of the communication component in IUCNP Projects;
3.2 In collaboration with programme and project teams, integrate communication perspective into project development and assure adequate planning/ resources to undertake communication/ capacity development within project/to communicate project externally;
3.3 Administer internal communication needs of IUCN Staff in Pakistan and mobilize technical support for it.
3.4 Contribute in the programme development efforts of the team and incorporate the communications component in the new.
3.5 Support in the programme and projects implementation as required.
4. NETWORKING, PUBLIC RELATIONS and PROGRAME DEVELOPMENT:
4.1 Advise on the image and profile of IUCN at various fora;
4.2 Liaise with other institutions in the country and region to benefit from their experience;
4.3 Design, monitor and project IUCNP’s public persona and supervise public relations;
4.4 Coordinate with media institutions locally, nationally and regionally to raise IUCN’s profile, and support programmatic objectives;
4.5 Manage and monitor media relations;
4.6 Distribute relevant global and regional press releases to national media contacts.
4.7 In consultation with the Programme Coordination unit, engage the stakeholders for prospective business development opportunities for IUCN Pakistan;
4.8 In harmonization with the Programme Coordination unit, implement the project communications related activities;
4.9 Direct and address internal communication needs of IUCN Staff and select partners in Pakistan;
4.10 Facilitate in implementation of IUCN Pakistan’s private sector engagement strategy;
4.11 Represent IUCN Pakistan on relevant forums;
4.12 Facilitate the Programme development and implementation at IUCN Pakistan;
4.13 Explore and assist in concept and proposal development, Identify the donors and help to identify new funding opportunities.
5. INSTITUTIONALIZE LEARNING:
5.1 In collaboration with programme and project teams, institutionalize learning through the development and implementation of appropriate knowledge systems;
5.2 Undertake field visits, and participate in relevant events for enhancing the knowledge base and quality of IUCNP’s work;
5.3 Undertake or commission specific studies for documenting case studies and learning;
5.4 Supervise IUCNP’s Libraries, intranets and Internet-based resources from a content and profile point of view.
6. KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT:
6.1 Conduct Information Management function of the Programme, develop and manage the (technology based) mechanisms, tools and systems for effective information management;
6.2 Manage web-enablement of all IUCNP knowledge products, including publications, success stories, case studies, and awareness-raising and promotional material;
6.3 Manage and ensure the smooth day-to-day running of IUCNP’s corporate website;
6.4 Contribute and/or support the relevant data and information management team and activities.
6.5 Provide support for development and compliance with standard, norms and policies related to data and information management.
6.6 Conduct the consolidation of data systems, including the interoperability of operational data and systems.
6.7 Administer the consistency of data and results for IUCNP.
6.8 Facilitate the information systems needed, under thematic programs or projects managed under IUCNP; and bring them online, if required;
6.9 Guide the development of technology-based solutions under the on-going projects at IUCNP.
7. Other Functions
Constituency and Membership Relations (Pakistan):
7.1Lead and Manage the Constituency and Membership relations with the IUCN Member organizations in Pakistan
7.2 Coordination with IUCN ARO and IUCN HQ on issues related to membership dues;
7.3 Follow up with members on payment of membership dues and keep track of payments received;
7.4 Organize PNC national and executive committee meetings;
7.5 Manage the PNC website/blog;
7.6 Update members record on the CRM;
7.7 Disseminate the information to Pakistan National Committee in the domains of natural resource management and climate change;
7.8 Ensure the dissemination of information received from IUCN HQ and ARO Membership unit to Pakistan based Members.
7.9 Facilitate organizations interested in getting membership of IUCN Pakistan;
7.10 Keep consolidated record of Pakistan based Commission Members and Focal Points;
7.11 Coordinate with IUCN HQ on latest technological developments with regard to tools and softwares on membership and ensure synergy with the Asia component of the corporate website;
7.12 Help to increase the IUCN Expert Commission Membership in Pakistan by involving country Commissions Focal Points and Commission Chairs.
8. Any Other
8.1 Any other duties and responsibilities may be assigned from time to time by the Line Manager.
