The interview of shortlisted candidates is provisionally scheduled to be held between end of June and beginning of July 2026.

1.    POST CONTEXT AND RESPONSIBILITIES.


1.    The NATO Science & Technology Organization (STO) is a NATO subsidiary body to the North Atlantic Council (NAC), and is governed by the NATO Science and Technology Board (STB). The STB reports to the NAC through the Military Committee (MC) and the Conference of National Armaments Directors (CNAD).
2.    The mission of the STO is to help position the Nations and NATO Bodies’ S&T investments as a strategic enabler of the knowledge and technical advantage supporting the defence and security posture of Allies and partner Nations. As described in the STO Charter, the STO Collaboration Support Office (CSO) is one of the three Executive Bodies of the STO.
3.    Within the framework of the STO Collaborative business model, the CSO provides executive and administrative support to the S&T activities conducted through the eight STO Scientific and Technical Committees (STCs). The CSO facilitates the world’s largest and most vibrant scientific network for defence and security. More than 5 000 scientists and engineers from NATO and Partner Nations are engaged in approximately 460 carefully selected S&T Activities in the Collaborative Programme of Work (CPoW). Together, they work to solve real-world problems that Nations face today, and to better prepare their Armed Forces to meet future challenges. In its areas of expertise, the CSO provides assistance and support to the NATO Science and Technology Board (STB), its Chair, the Chief Scientist, and his/her office.
4.    The Security Guard, under the control of the Chief Security and the direct supervision of the Chief Security Guard, ensures that the CSO physical environment is secured at all times. His/her daily activities are in accordance with NATO security policies as well as local CSO directives. His/her office is the entry point for all visitors. In addition, he/she handles the unanswered incoming calls to the CSO Staff members. He/she is expected to work as instructed by the Chief Security and the Chief Security Guard.


Functions include:
As part of the CSO guarding force he/she is responsible for:
1.    Working with other guards following the monthly planning.
2.    Being responsible for the continuous surveillance of the CSO grounds, buildings and approaches from the street.
3.    Conducting security checks at various hours to ensure that all classified material is properly secured and to verify that all safes are locked.
4.    Maintaining and issuing visitor security badges. Inspecting the contents of visitors' briefcases and carrying bags as necessary. Promptly notifying the appropriate staff member of a visitor's arrival. Ensuring that visitors are escorted throughout the duration of their visit.
5.    Escorts contractors’ personnel on the CSO premises as necessary.
6.    Conducting spot-check searches on entering staff and visitor vehicles. As required, directing incoming and outgoing vehicle traffic to ensure safe passage from and to the street area.
7.    Receiving all incoming telephone calls when the desired CSO extension is not answered. When possible, transferring the calls to another party or forwarding an appropriate message.
8.    Receiving all incoming letters and packages, and ensuring that they are promptly claimed internally. Follow security procedures for classified and registered mail as instructed by the Chief Security Guard.
9.    Performing other functions as directed by the CSO Security Officer or the Chief Security.

2.    REPORTING LINE
Work under the direct supervision of the Chief Security Guard and more broadly, report to the Chief Security and the CSO Security Officer as required.

3.    QUALIFICATIONS
ESSENTIAL
Professional /Experience
•    Must have 3-year experience in physical security functions.
•    Must be prepared to respond to local security incidents and emergency situations.
•    Must be knowledgeable in the operation of alarm and communication systems.
Education/Training
•    Previous service with a security/safety/defense organization.
•    Training in security and safety regulations and practices.
•    Training in security policies and practices. 
•    Basic knowledge in office word processing, spreadsheet and messaging software.
Language
•    Very good knowledge of French (SLP: 4444) with a fair knowledge in English (SLP: 2222).
DESIRABLE
The following would be considered an advantage:
Professional /Experience
•    Having knowledge of NATO security regulations and practices.
•    Established relationship with the local law enforcement officials.
Education/Training
•    Good knowledge of MS office software suite.
Language
•    Good knowledge of English (3333)

3.    Professional Contacts

b)    Interacts with CSO personnel and visitors in the course of his duties.
c)    Interacts with the local law enforcement officials as necessary under the supervision of the Chief Security Guard.
4.    Contribution to the Objectives
The security of the CSO premises is core to the existence of the collaborative environment needed by the contributors to the STO Program of Work. A number of Task Groups meet on the premises yearly, relying on the CSO to provide the safe environment they expect for exchanging information. The requirement to provide a secure collaborative environment is part of the functions of the CSO. This extends to the protection of the communication equipment hosting the virtual collaborative work environment.

6.    WORKING ENVIRONMENT
a)    Night shifts and long hours require from the Security Guards to be in excellent sate of health.
b)    Extreme attention is required to keep access to the premises safe and secure for the Staff and visitors. Continuously monitoring the perimeter including the adjacent city street and private buildings.
c)    The CSO operates in an international, dynamic, multi-cultural environment. 
d)    The CSO is a non-smoking workplace.

7.    EMPLOYMENT TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The position is at grade G4. The starting basic monthly salary will be Euro 4160.49, subject to taxation. Specific allowances may apply, depending on personal circumstances of the incumbent.
The post holder will benefit from 30 days annual leave, life and medical insurance, a retirement pension plan, allowance for dependent children if eligible. 
The selected candidate will be offered a definite duration contract of six months. Upon conditions, a follow-up definite contract of six months shall be offered to the incumbent. 
The CSO Director will appoint the selected candidate through the signature of his/her contract. This contract will be ruled by the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations.
The appointment is subject to the receipt by the CSO of a security clearance at NATO SECRET level (provided by the national Authorities of the incumbent).
