Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The focus of the consultancy is to support the Consumer Information Programme under the One Planet Network, working under the supervision of the Associate Programme Officer. Its role is to provide simultaneous interpretation services for webinars developed by the project “Greening Supply and demand: Advancing Eco-Labels and Sustainable Public Procurement for climate and biodiversity protection (Eco-Advance)”, which aims to advance more sustainable patterns of consumption and production through employing the policy tools of ecolabelling (led by UNEP) and sustainable public procurement (led by GIZ). The project is financed by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection through the International Climate Initiative. An interpreter is sought to support with Spanish-English and English-Spanish interpretation to deliver online webinars on the sustainable public procurement and ecolabeling themes in the languages of the project EcoAdvance beneficiaries. The key objective of this consultancy is to provide high-quality technical and simultaneous interpretations for Spanish-English and English-Spanish during online webinar events organized by UNEP, the Consumer Information Programme and EcoAdvance project. Output 1. First webinar on good practices on ecolabelling and sustainable public procurement with simultaneous Spanish-English and English-Spanish interpretation. Duration: 60-90 min max. Output 2. Second webinar on the good practices on ecolabelling and sustainable public procurement with simultaneous Spanish-English and English-Spanish interpretation. Duration: 60-90 min max. Output 3. Third webinar on the good practices on ecolabelling and sustainable public procurement with simultaneous Spanish-English and English-Spanish interpretation. Duration: 60-90 min max. Specific tasks and responsibilities To deliver the outputs, the consultant will engage in the following activities for each webinar: - Review and study concept notes and presentation materials provided by the project team prior to the webinar. - Attend a test call (1 hour) with the project team before the webinar to ensure audio check. - Ensure attendance 30 minutes before the commencement of the webinar. - Ensure the availability, compatibility, and functionality of online platforms hosting the webinar, computer, audio, and video equipment. - Provide simultaneous high-quality Spanish-English and English-Spanish interpretation for the webinars. Each webinar will have a duration of 60-90 min max.
Qualifications/special skills
• A bachelor’s degree in the field of Spanish and English philology, literature, or interpretation. • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in simultaneous Spanish-English and English-Spanish interpretation is required • Familiarity with the thematic areas of environmental issues and climate change is preferred. • Experience working with international organizations is preferred. • Experience working in the context of ecolabeling, consumer information, and public procurement is an advantage.
Languages
• For the post advertised, fluency in Spanish and English, both oral and written, is required.
