Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC is currently looking for Paramedic in Sumy.
About the job
The overall objective of the role is to provide on-site medical support for humanitarian demining operations. The main task of the paramedic will be to provide first aid to victims of an accident during the work process, which includes first aid, stabilization of the victim's condition and control over his condition during the medical evacuation process.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- Supporting humanitarian demining teams wherever they operate in Ukraine.
- Ensuring immediate stabilization of the victim on site in the event of an accident/incident and accompanying the victim to the designated medical facility.
- Assessing local medical facilities prior to the commencement of demining activities in order to develop casualty evacuation plans.
- Maintaining up-to-date contact and location information for all relevant healthcare facilities in the DRC’s area of operation.
- Ensuring the integrity and completeness of serious injury kits in accordance with DRC standard operating procedures.
- Conducting regular basic life support training for colleagues based on a standardized program developed by DRC.
- Supporting formal third-party training in cooperation with DRC Global Medic.
- Supporting colleagues in performing routine tasks related to deployment in the mobile team.
About you
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have a minimum of 3 years of practical experience in medicine. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- University degree: diploma from a state medical institution with a qualification as a paramedic or doctor.
- Experience in an ambulance crew or as a military combat medic.
- Good level of computer literacy with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other related applications.
- Ukrainian – fluency.
Desirable
- Experience in dealing with traumas, including those sustained in accidents.
- 3 years working appearance with NGOs as a paramedic.
- Previous experience in delivering paramedic training.
- Preferably a good understanding of written and spoken English.
