Duties and Responsibilities
The International Trade Centre (ITC) is the joint cooperation agency of the WTO and the UN for trade-related technical assistance. ITC is the only multilateral agency fully dedicated to supporting the competitiveness and internationalization of SMEs, and works to advance inclusive and sustainable trade diversification and value addition through increased SME competitiveness. The Office of the Executive Director (OED) spearheads the positioning of ITC, including communication with donors, external stakeholders, beneficiary groups and the general public as well as internally among ITC staff; leads a corporate approach to event management and fundraising; coordinates strategic partnerships; and oversees key management control functions especially governance, planning and performance reporting, and evaluation. OED is made up of the offices of the Executive Director and the Deputy Executive Director (ODED) including the Cabinet of the Executive Director, the Strategic Planning, Performance and Governance Section (SPPG), the Communications and Events (CE) Section. The Strategic Planning, Performance and Governance Section (SPPG) supports ITC’s Senior Management and staff in advancing results-based management, strategic direction and organizational effectiveness. SPPG is responsible for corporate planning, performance monitoring and reporting, and risk management. SPPG brings together core corporate functions through its constituent entities: External Relations and Governance, the New York Office, Gender, Diversity and Inclusion, the Project Design Task Force, Planning and Performance, and the Independent Evaluation Unit, ensuring a coherent, organization wide approach to strategy, accountability, partnerships and inclusion. Within SPPG, the External Relations and Governance team is responsible for coordinating ITC’s engagement with United Nations member states and WTO Members and key institutional partners, as well as supporting the organization’s governance processes and donor relations. The team plays a central role in the preparation and organization of ITC’s principal governance meetings, including the Joint Advisory Group (JAG). The JAG is ITC’s main annual governance meeting, bringing together representatives of United Nations member states and WTO Members to review the organization’s activities and results, discuss strategic priorities, and provide guidance to ITC management on the organization’s work programme and future direction. The intern will work in the External Relations and Governance team within the Strategic Planning, Performance and Governance Unit. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Under the overall supervision of the Senior Donor Relations and Governance Officer and the direct supervision of the Associate Governance and External Relations Officer, and in close cooperation with other divisions and sections, the intern will: Knowledge Management: - Resource Mobilization trainings: Contribute to the design of relevant training materials and if appropriate take part actively in the conduct of the trainings in collaboration with other SPPG/ER staff. - Enhancing ITC’s readiness to take part in tenders and bids: o Populate the bids and tenders internal intranet page with documents for corporate due diligence and compendium past bids. o Compile lessons from past bids including short presentations, briefings/trainings, and accessible documentation to strengthen institutional learning. Communication and advocacy: - Support the implementation of ITC’s Window 1 communication and visibility plan. - Contribute to the development of communication materials for funders including developing content for the webpages of ITC’s top funders, including drafting funder specific brochures for such as Sweden and Switzerland. 60th session of the Joint Advisory Group (JAG) meeting: - Support the preparation of the JAG meeting scheduled for early July 2026 by compiling inputs from across ITC divisions, assisting in the preparation of briefing materials and documentation, and supporting coordination with internal stakeholders. The intern will be a part of the JAG operations and coordination team on the day of the event. - Support the preparation of the Friends of ITC lunch on the day of the JAG, through: liaising with contributing ITC teams, consolidating inputs for speaking points, presentations, and other communication materials i.e., short videos and other visual materials to showcase ITC’s impact and initiatives during the event. - Following the JAG meeting, the intern will support the preparation of the draft JAG report by collecting written statements delivered by JAG members and other stakeholders, compiling a matrix summarizing key interventions and recommendations, and synthesizing discussions from the meeting. Based on these materials, assist in drafting the first version of the JAG report, and subsequently support the revision and finalization of the report by incorporating comments and feedback received from relevant ITC divisions and senior management. Qualifications/special skills
• be enrolled in the second or higher academic year of the first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); • be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation; SKILLS • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft 365 (MS Office) applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams; • Previous work experience in an international organization or in the areas of fundraising/CSR will be considered an asset. • Ability to write clearly and concisely is essential, as is the ability to apply sound judgement when synthesizing and presenting information.
Languages
• Fluency in spoken and written English is required. • Working knowledge of another UN language would be an asset.
