Location: Bukavu and Tshivanga, South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo
Reports To: Site Director with a technical reporting line to the DRC Operations Director.
Position objective
WCS is seeking a highly experienced manager in the role of Site Manager who can provide day-to-day coordination and oversight at the protected area HQ from the operational and support functions perspective, to ensure that the aspects of protected area management including logistics, procurement, administration, and capacity building of staff are moving together as one team to allow the programmatic activities to be deployed as efficiently as possible, under the auspices of the Site Director.
The position will be accountable to and directly support the Site Director and the various departments of Kahuzi Biega National Park with a line of technical supervision by the DRC Director of Operations, in delivering tangible results across all operational departments in support of the protected area’s five-year strategy.
The job requires a solution-oriented coordination approach to ensure smooth, efficient and accountable day-to-day operations.
The Site Manager is based permanently on-site at the protected area headquarters.
Candidates will need to clearly demonstrate they have the necessary management experience, leadership, communication, and inter-personal skills with which to coordinate and achieve expected results in such a large and complex project operating in a remote, challenging and insecure area.

Responsibilities
- Logistics: Supervise site logistics and ensure the coordination of logistics and procurement services. Work with the site logistics’ team to safeguard compliance in the acquisition and coordination of the movement of supplies, equipment, and personnel to ensure seamless operations.
- Human Resources: Oversee the management of HR functions, supporting the HR Officer with HR processes, and managing recruitment, training, and employee relations to ensure a motivated and effective workforce.
- Infrastructure: Supervise the Infrastructure Manager in the planning, development, and implementation of infrastructure projects and maintenance activities, ensuring delivery of a safe, functional, and appropriate environment for staff and visitors. In coordination with the Site Director, contributes to the strategic planning and prioritization of site infrastructure development.
- Maintenance: Ensure all site amenities and equipment are well-maintained and in optimal working condition.
- Transportation: Support the Site Head of Logistics in management and organization of transportation logistics, fuel consumption, equipment, and fleet to support site operations.
- Data and information sharing: Ensure that all services under his/her supervision produce reliable and timely data, including required periodic reports. Oversee the consolidation and sharing of relevant operational data and metrics generated by these services for donor reporting and proposals, in coordination with the Program Manager. Analyze the data produced to inform operational decisions and take appropriate corrective actions where needed. Ensure that reports, data, analyses, agreements, contracts, and other key documents are properly stored and maintained on SharePoint.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance of KBNP’s operations to WCS policies and procedures and interior regulations. Ensure all operational and site staff manuals and SOPs exist, are up to date, and are transparently communicated to all staff.
- Communication: Ensure strong communication between the management and leadership team of the protected area and over communication with the operation team.
- Security and safety: liaise with the DRC security team and Law Enforcement Advisor to include security and safety considerations in all support operations when necessary

- At least 5 years of field operations or logistics management experience.
- Leadership skills and demonstrated experience in coordinating and managing a large and diverse team.
- Practical decision-making skills in a high-risk environment.
- Prior leadership experience positions in complex, multicultural and remote environments.
- Excellent communication and negotiating skills.
- Fluency in French and good knowledge of English required.
- Commitment to the values and mission of the Wildlife Conservation Society.

- Knowledge of Swahili.
- Previous experience with international conservation organizations.
- A business background or experience in another professional sector.
- Experience in protected areas or equivalent natural resource management context.
