Senior Software Engineer

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Development Platforms and Integrations team within the Information Technology and Services unit.

This role is based in Basel, Switzerland; however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Purpose of the job:

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides the technology that runs all our Bank operations globally, from hybrid cloud infrastructure, digital tools, DevOps technologies and data and analytics platforms, right through to end user computing and business applications. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will have an important role in developing and maintaining software platforms that are used across the Bank to provide key services supporting wider strategic initiatives.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Provides technical leadership and expertise for several corporate applications used by all business areas

  • Ensures that the design meets business requirements and adheres to IT and security architecture standards and guidelines.

  • Provides leadership in agile processes and rituals; oversees team delivery and mediates team discussions

  • Analyses business requirements, extracts technological needs and translates them into workable product backlog items.

  • Ensures operational excellence for applications under her/his control, following internal risk management processes, and ensuring technical landscape is fully compliant with existing policies

  • Provides production support for designated applications on her/his own or with the help of internal or external resources.

  • Manages small initiatives and coordinates activities with team and stakeholder

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A university degree in computer science or a related discipline; or equivalent work experience.

  • Strong experience in designing and implementing large scale enterprise applications.

  • Strong hands-on experience with major front and back-end programming languages, (e.g. C#, .Net, JavaScript, SQL, etc.), APIs and integrations, libraries (ReactJS) and major database technology.

  • Solid knowledge of design and integration patterns.

  • Solid knowledge of multi-tier architecture and microservices.

  • In depth understanding of best practices and tooling for CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code quality and package management.

  • Good knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Domain Driven Design (DDD)

  • Experience with secure software development lifecycles is a plus.

  • Hands-on experience with containers is a plus.
