About this position

We are looking for a highly organized, analytical, and proactive Project Operations Consultant. As a Project Operations Consultant, you will support the mainstreaming of climate change into the IDB Group’s operations and regional initiatives, contribute to policy and strategy development, and assist in analytical work, research, and the preparation of sector practices and case studies related to climate change and sustainability.

You will work in the Climate Change Solutions Division (CSD/CCS), part of the Climate Change and Sustainability Sector (CSD). This team is responsible for advising IDB management and developing policies, strategies, operational guidelines, and programs related to climate change and sustainability, as well as conducting sector research, analytical work, and knowledge products to strengthen climate policy at subnational, national, and regional levels.

What you’ll do

  • Support the origination of concessional finance proposals, including country-specific investment plans and projects, for major providers of concessional finance such as Climate Investment Fund, Adaptation Fund, Long Term Strategy Programme, Loss and Damage Fund.
  • Provide technical inputs in the preparation of knowledge products for internal and external audiences, including publications, blogs, and BBLs on topics related to concessional finance.
  • Maintain the Climate Finance Team project pipeline database and prepare briefings on its status for management, as required.
  • In addition, the consultant will support CSD/CCS other activities on concessional climate finance.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Economics, International Development, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience working with multilateral development banks or international financial institutions on climate projects is desirable. Understanding of projects related to concessional climate finance, particularly in relation to multilateral and bilateral funds. 
  • Languages: Proficiency in English and Spanish, spoken and written, is required.

Type of contract and duration

International consultant Full-Time, 19 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility).
