Your team

You will be part of the ECB’s new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Office, a central team dedicated to driving the adoption and responsible implementation of AI across the institution. We are responsible for developing the AI strategy, fostering a culture of innovation and empowering the ECB’s business areas to leverage AI for their specific needs.

The AI Office is committed to ensuring that the institution remains at the forefront of technological advancements while adhering to the highest ethical and governance standards.

In your role as AI Adoption Lead, you will be a key driver of AI awareness and understanding throughout the institution. You will work closely with all business areas across the ECB to demystify AI and promote its potential to enhance the ECB’s operations and decision-making processes.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role

As an AI Adoption Lead, you will:
  • focus on moving AI from theoretical use cases to daily business workflows;
  • drive the development and execution of the ECB-wide AI adoption plan;
  • ensure alignment of strategic objectives and measurable progress towards defined milestones;
  • design, deliver and continuously improve presentations, workshops and educational materials for a wide range of audiences and assess their impact on AI literacy across all levels of the institution;
  • serve as the central point of accountability for AI-related communication and inquiries, ensuring timely, accurate and actionable flow across business areas;
  • assume responsibility for translating complex AI concepts into actionable guidance tailored to the institution’s needs, and ensure that both technical and non-technical stakeholders are empowered to make informed decisions that drive AI adoption and transformation;
  • identify, prioritise and report on opportunities for AI-driven innovation, working with business areas to ensure that identified opportunities are translated into concrete projects with clear owners and timelines;
  • monitor emerging AI trends and assess their relevance and potential impact for ECB operations;
  • promote the ethical and responsible use of AI, ensuring that all initiatives align with institutional values and regulatory requirements and that risks are proactively identified and mitigated.

For this role we are seeking candidates who demonstrate the potential for growth, and we will support the selected candidate in their development of the required skills.

We actively support professional development for our staff. Besides learning opportunities such as training and mentoring, we encourage and support horizontal mobility after some years in the same position.

The position offers you excellent opportunities to shape the future of AI within a major European institution. You will play a crucial role in building an AI-driven culture and making a tangible impact on the lives of European citizens. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:
  • a master's degree or equivalent in IT management, business administration, social science with a technology focus or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of six years’ professional experience (other than as a trainee or intern) in the fields of digital transformation, technical product management, management consulting, strategic communications and/or change management;
  • at least three years’ experience working with AI and machine learning, and their practical applications in a business context;
  • exceptional communication skills, including presenting complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, moderating workshops and delivering technical training – with the ability to influence senior stakeholders;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:
  • familiarity with the ethical and governance considerations surrounding AI;
  • a network within the AI and technology communities.

You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe.
