About this position

We are looking for a dynamic, collaborative, and highly motivated professional to join our Infrastructure and Energy Sector (INE) team in Washington, DC, to provide operations support for the Infrastructure and Energy Sector (INE) portfolio.

INE accounts for more than 30 percent of IDB lending, managing a portfolio exceeding USD $20 billion dollars across the energy, transportation, water and sanitation, and public‑private partnership sectors. INE’s mission is to enhance the quality, relevance, and impact of the financial and knowledge products and services the Bank delivers to its borrowing member countries.

What you’ll do

  • Support the preparation and review of INE operations across all subsectors (energy, transport, water and sanitation, and PPPs), with a strong focus on economic analysis, financial sustainability, environmental and social considerations, and development impact.
  • Contribute to the execution mechanisms design and supervision of complex loan operations and technical assistance programs, including support during approval, implementation, and closing stages, in close coordination with the divisions’ teams.
  • Provide operational, administrative, and technical support to project teams, ensuring compliance with IDB policies, procedures, and fiduciary requirements, and helping to resolve implementation bottlenecks in a timely manner.
  • Develop and apply analytical and sectoral work to inform the preparation of sector strategies, lending operations, and technical assistance programs in the infrastructure and energy sectors.
  • Identify operational risks and implementation challenges through portfolio monitoring and data analysis and propose corrective actions and practical solutions in coordination with the divisions’ teams.
  • Conduct portfolio and trend analysis using multiple databases and dashboards to monitor performance, identify systemic issues, and support evidence‑based decision‑making and action planning.
  • Prepare high‑quality briefing notes, technical inputs, and presentations for INE management and other internal audiences, translating complex technical and operational information into clear and actionable messages.
  • Provide substantive inputs to reports and corporate deliverables prepared for INE management, donors, and corporate units, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and strategic alignment.

What you'll need

  • Education: Masters’ degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Engineering, Political Sciences, Business Administration or other related fields.
  • Experience: At least a minimum of 3 years of international professional experience in the execution, supervision and evaluation of infrastructure projects.
  • Languages:  Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required.

Type of contract and duration

International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
