The Position:

The Receptionist (LSC-1) supports front desk operations and contributes to maintaining a safe, orderly, and professional office environment by managing visitor access, handling communications, and assisting with basic security and facility-related tasks. The position ensures effective reception services and supports coordination with security personnel to uphold the safety of UNFPA personnel, premises, and assets in Kabul.

Under the overall guidance of the Security Specialist, the incumbent reports to the Security Analyst.

Job Purpose:

To support the provision of efficient reception and front desk services, you will uphold the highest standards of professionalism, courtesy, and integrity; demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility and vigilance; and contribute to maintaining a safe, secure, and well-managed office environment in compliance with UNFPA administrative and security procedures.

You would be responsible for:

  • Receives and screens the visitors who enter the UNFPA Afghanistan office 
  • Prevent other non-UNFPA vehicles to park in front of the UNFPA office 
  • Check and ensure all doors and windows are closed and secured after working hours and verifies that electrical appliances are switched off during non-working hours
  • Reports immediately to the Security Specialist and Security Analyst for suspicious packages, bags and envelopes found in the office 
  • Allow and direct international and national visitors to reception for registration, ensuring their names and details are accurately recorded in the visitor log book
  • Responds promptly to phone calls directed to reception, providing accurate information, redirecting calls to the appropriate personnel.
  • Keeps on all security lights during the night and report to the Security Specialist and Security Analyst regarding the damage of assets
  • Patrols the UNFPA office premises compound during the night and ensures that all conditions remain safe and secure
  • Operate the  office generator according to the timetable;
  • Monitor CCTV system and immediately report any malfunctions, faulty cameras, or technical issues
  • In case of a fire incident, act as fire warden. Assist personnel and visitors in safe evacuation during fire alarms, earthquakes, or bunker procedures in emergencies. 
  • Conduct other duties if required.

Qualifications and Experience: 

Education:  

  • Secondary Education is required.

Knowledge and Experience: 

  • At least three years (with high school diploma) or up to 1 year (with Bachelor’s degree) of relevant work experience in security receptionist role is required.  
  • Computer skills and experience with video surveillance equipment, radio and other telecommunication equipment is desired.

Languages: 

  • Working knowledge of English, both written and oral, is required. Knowledge of the local language Dari and/or Pashto is required.
