Global Heart Hub (GHH) is the first international non-profit organisation established to provide a voice for those living with, or affected by, cardiovascular disease. We are an alliance of 160+ heart patient organisations, aiming to create a unified global voice for those living with or affected by heart disease.

About this Role:

GHH has an exciting opening for a Communications Lead (senior position) who will play a leading role in developing and executing our communication strategy with hands-on management of day-to-day activities.

With support from the Communications Manager, the Communications Lead will manage both internal and external GHH communications, across traditional and new media. They will help develop and lead the communication activities around programmes and campaigns, including public awareness campaigns, special events, publications, communications toolkits, etc. They will drive online engagement for GHH, building the GHH brand and developing an engaged and activated community of patient organisations and patient advocates.

This position will report to GHH’s Communications Manager and will assume managerial duties in their absence, including ownership of key campaigns and overseeing external vendors, agencies and junior team members. This role offers opportunities to grow into a Communications Manager position as the organisation expands. This is a full time, fully remote position.

The successful candidate must have several years’ experience at a senior level, working in communications, marketing, digital and social media. Non-profit communications and/or patient advocacy experience is desired.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute GHH communication strategies across digital, social and traditional media aligned with organisational priorities.
  • Support the development and implementation of organisational communications strategies working closely with the management team to shape and deliver the overall strategic plan.
  • Provide strategic communications advice to senior leadership on messaging, positioning and reputational considerations.
  • Develop and maintain key messaging frameworks to ensure consistency of voice, tone and brand across all channels.
  • Support brand and reputation management ensuring all communications align with organisational values and positioning.
  • Contribute to crisis and issues communications including the development of messaging and materials as needed.
  • Stay up to date with communications best practice, tools and trends to enhance impact and innovation.

Campaigns & Advocacy

  • Lead the planning and delivery of GHH awareness and advocacy campaigns including performance tracking, evaluation and reporting.
  • Support affiliates through the development of communications toolkits, guidance and shared campaign assets where appropriate.
  • Use analytics and measurement tools to monitor performance across web, social and campaign activity and use insights to inform continuous improvement.

Digital & Social Media

  • Manage and grow GHH’s social media channels including content development, community engagement, partner collaboration and performance reporting.
  • Plan and deliver email marketing campaigns including the GHH e-newsletter and support ongoing database management.
  • Oversee the maintenance and optimisation of the GHH website working with digital colleagues to ensure content is current, engaging and drives traffic.

Media & External Communications

  • Provide media relations support including drafting press materials, coordinating media engagement and identifying opportunities for coverage.
  • Monitor media coverage, sector developments, emerging trends and GHH Affiliate activities to inform proactive and responsive communications.

Content & Creative Production

  • Work with in-house designers or external agencies to develop high-quality communications materials including social media content, infographics, presentations and campaign assets.

Operations & Resource Management

  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, partners and affiliates to support coordinated and impactful communications.
  • Assist with tracking and monitoring communications budgets and campaign spend.
  • Manage external suppliers, agencies and freelancers where required.

Qualifications:

  • A third level qualification in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field is required.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with advanced fluency in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development of communications plans and implementing communications/marketing tactics as well as reporting out on results.
  • Social media, research, writing, design, editing and reporting skills are essential.
  • Experience in developing communications strategies across paid, earned and owned channels.
  • Have a working knowledge of Adobe creative suite, photography and video skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in WordPress CMS and website management.
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple projects and complete multiple projects to tight deadlines.
  • Be equally competent to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team. Have the ability to perform well under pressure and operate in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, tact and cultural sensitivity, and have the ability to handle confidential and sensitive material with discretion.
  • Be flexible to a work environment where colleagues work across several time zones.

Note:

  • Full-time position starting with a contract term of one year with opportunity for extension.
  • Salary commensurate with experience.
  • The GHH registered office is in Ireland, but this is a remote working role. You may be required to travel for essential work purposes from time to time.
