The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral, and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC is mandated to work in countries affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence. The ICRC is present in over 100 countries and has some 18,000 staff worldwide. In 2014, the ICRC expanded its presence in Ukraine. Over 900 team members work across the county in various professional fields.

ABOUT THE JOB

The ICRC Cooperation Unit is seeking a highly capable Movement Cooperation Specialist on Movement Partnerships and Coordination to join our team in Kyiv.

As part of the Cooperation team, you will contribute to developing and implementing the delegation’s objectives on Cooperation overall and as they relate to Movement coordination. You will help strengthen positive relationships between the ICRC, Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS), International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and participating National Societies (PNS), ensuring a well-coordinated and efficient humanitarian response of the overall Movement in Ukraine.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting the ICRC’s role as co-convener within the Movement coordination mechanism and contributing to effective coordination across Movement components, including IFRC, the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, and participating National Societies.
  • Representing the ICRC in key Movement coordination platforms
  • Supporting the management with regards to Movement coordination and regularly update the cooperation agreements with participating National Societies, including security-related arrangements and coordination with relevant internal services.
  • Ensuring proper preparation of visiting participating National Society delegations, including coordination of necessary briefings and operational arrangements.
  • Analyzing operational cooperation within the Movement, identifying capacity gaps, and proposing practical solutions aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Managing and documenting interactions between the ICRC and participating National Societies to ensure institutional follow-up and continuity.
  • Supporting coordination between the ICRC teams and sub-delegations to ensure effective and complementary support to Ukrainian Red Cross Society operations.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date overview of Movement partners’ activities and capacities in Ukraine and contributing to strong relationship management across stakeholders.
  • Strengthening internal awareness of Movement coordination and supporting the integration of this understanding into operational planning.
  • Contributing to a well-functioning Cooperation team in Kyiv and effective collaboration with field structures.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful as Movement Cooperation Specialist in the Cooperation Work Unit, you should possess the following qualifications and experience and have the following characteristics: 

  • Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
  • University degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum 6–9 years of relevant professional experience in partnership management, cooperation, or humanitarian coordination
  • Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience with international humanitarian organizations and/or the ICRC, IFRC, National Societies, or other Movement components
  • Strong understanding of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
  • Fluent written and spoken English, Ukrainian
  • Strong analytical, coordination, and stakeholder management skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
  • Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
  • Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
