The United Nations Satellite Centre, UNITAR, delivers geospatial analysis and satellite-derived products to support humanitarian response, disaster risk reduction, human rights monitoring, and sustainable development. The United Nations Satellite Centre operates across emergency, conflict, and development contexts, producing geospatial data, analytical outputs, and web-based services, while also contributing to applied research and capacity development through training and knowledge transfer.
This roster is established for Individual Contractors (non-regular staff) to contribute to the production of high-quality, timely, and operationally relevant geospatial analysis and satellite imagery-derived products supporting United Nations Satellite Centre activities.
Roster members will work in close coordination with United Nations Satellite Centre teams in Geneva, contributing to analytical production, workflows, and knowledge development across humanitarian, development, and complex operational contexts.
Key areas of expertise and functions include:
- Conducting satellite imagery analysis using visual interpretation, remote sensing techniques, GIS-based methodologies, and AI-supported approaches where relevant
- Supporting the identification, acquisition, and processing of satellite imagery and geospatial datasets
- Producing cartographic outputs, geospatial datasets, web mapping services, and analytical reports in accordance with United Nations Satellite Centre standards
- Contributing to technical analyses such as damage and impact assessments, change detection, land use analysis, infrastructure and settlement mapping, and conflict-related analysis
- Supporting the implementation of geospatial data processing and analytical workflows, including data preparation, processing, and output generation
- Contributing to the development and refinement of analytical methodologies, workflows, and tools, including automation and GeoAI approaches
- Participating in the documentation of workflows, analytical processes, and methodologies
- Ensuring outputs meet quality standards, timelines, and operational requirements, including performing quality checks on analytical products
