Overview of positionThis position is located within the our clien's Somalia Office. The Facility Management Assistant reports to Chief Engineer through the Chief of Electromechanical Unit and is responsible for providing oversight/ installation, maintenance and repair of UN-owned Generators in the client duty stations in Mogadishu and the sectors.
Role objectivesInstall, operate, maintain, repair and overhaul of different kind of generators such as Coelmo, Fogo, Bruno, and FG Wilson in compliance with recognized standards and regulations.
Assists with repair, maintenance, overhaul, and oversight of all generators from 5 KVA to 750 KVA installed at multiple locations in Somalia.
Assists in sourcing of spare parts for the generators ranging from 5 KVA to 750 KVA.
Assists with providing required spare parts to Plant Equipment Repair and Maintenance (PEM) contractor for day-to-day generator repair works in workshop.
Diagnose technical faults and carry-out remedy for malfunctioning or defective generator.
Perform diagnostics and preventive maintenance of generators.
Perform technical or other assessments of generating sets and prepare technical reports.
Apply and ensure adherence to safety programmes related to the safe operation of generators.
Conducting in-house training to AMISOM generator technicians.
Plan and ensure installation of FRIM meters for GENSETs energy efficiency measurement.
Review and recommend for approval of generator maintenance work orders and assign day to day repair and maintenance tasks to PEM contractor.
Ensures that quality control is implemented in all plans, procedures, and workshops under contractual arrangements with PEM contractor.
Inspect and report maintenance work carried out by PEM contractor.
Assists with the matching of invoices against completed authorized jobs.
performs a variety of additional, ad-hoc tasks as and when required by the Chief Engineering and Facilities Maintenance Section.
Project reportingWork implies frequent interaction with the following:
Internal and external clients, Engineering personnel, logistics personnel, contractors.
Results Expected:
The efficient maintenance and repair of the UN-owned Generators in an assigned area ranging from 5 KVA to 750 KVA.
Well-managed and supervised generator maintenance unit staff working in close coordination with the contractor rendering this service.
Spare parts are adequately ordered and inspected during receipt at the warehouse.
Issuance of spare parts from warehouse to contractor is regularly followed up and tracked/recorded.
Outputs/Works Assignment
The required preventive and corrective maintenance work is scheduled and accomplished for all the available UN-owned generators.
Records are maintained for each spare part received and/or used.
Maintenance records are maintained and updated for each UN-Owned generator.

Further informationWork Experience:
A minimum of eight (8) years of training/experience in generator repair and maintenance or mechanical engineering practice, including at least two (2) years’ experience at the international level. UN experience is desirable.
Language:
English and
French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this
opening, fluency in oral and written English is required.
4-wheeler national driving license, ability to write clearly and concisely, and ability to write objective reports, basic Microsoft office tools, being trainable in the system to raise notifications
