This position is funded by the Trust Fund for the Development of Interns and Visiting Professionals, thanks to the generous contributions of donors such as the French Republic, as well as elected officials and staff of the ICC.

In order to be eligible for this funded position, all applicants must be nationals from Francophone countries that appear on the United Nations Statistics Division’s list of developing regions that are a State Party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

Some ICC States Parties are currently (as of 31 January 2026) not represented, or under-represented, and we therefore strongly encourage nationals from the following States Parties to apply:

Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Comoros, Djibouti, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Seychelles, Vanuatu.

Funding
This position is funded through the Trust Fund for the development of interns and visiting professionals, whereby the Court will provide the selected candidate a monthly remuneration of €1,500 (with a mandatory deduction for emergency health insurance) as well as some financial help for travel purposes for candidates who are not based in the Netherlands at the time of the recruitment. Please note that (i) costs associated with Visas are the responsibility of the selected candidate, (ii) due to the nature of the assignment, interns cannot bring their families with them.

Contract Duration
Visiting Professionals are required to work full time for a period of six months (to be agreed upon prior to commencement).


Organisational Context
Within the confines of the Division of External Operations’ (DEO) External Operations Support Section (EOSS), the Coordination and Planning Unit (CPU) is the Registry’s central coordinating body/operating centre for all mission planning, strategic planning, support and facilitation of all Country Offices. As an operating centre it is a one-stop-shop for all travellers and, as the central point, also oversees the logistical support of missions away from Headquarters (i.e. ensures prioritization of resources). The Unit is involved in strategic planning  and provides administrative support to Country Offices. It includes structural elements that influence the decision-making process (including situation desk assistance, security and travel coordination). The CPU also supports the implementation of Crisis Management Protocols.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
During their placement with The Coordination and Planning Unit, the candidate will be expected to assist the Team in performing, inter alia, the following tasks:

  • Support the Unit in enhancing and promoting Court’s mission planning procedures;
  • Collect and analyze data pertaining to mission planning and situation countries;
  • Participate in the budget process and to render assistance in contract administration and logistics matters;
  • Assist the Unit with a further development of a software on mission planning;
  • Draft memoranda, reports and minutes as appropriate;
  • Assist the Unit with the organization of meetings, provision of support to Country Offices and coordination of trainings for field staff.
  • Closely work with the Desk Assistants and CPU Officers and prepare regular reports, as/when required;
  • Any other tasks/projects as assigned by the Unit.

Required Qualifications

Education:
All candidates must have a degree, preferably in social science, political science, business, administration and/or related field or be in the final stages of their studies at a recognized university. Studies in International Relations are considered an asset.
 
Experience:
Visiting Professional placements focus on candidates who have extensive experience in their professional careers in relevant fields of work. Candidates for a Visiting Professional placement must have at least 3 (three) years of relevant professional experience. 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to adapt to multicultural and multilingual working environments.
  • Possesses strong teamwork skills (listens, consults and communicates proactively).
  • Very good oral communication and drafting skills.
  • Has acquired a good standard of computer skills (including Microsoft Office applications) and research skills (including the use of electronic databases).

 
Knowledge of Languages:
Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, French or English, is required. Working knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
