Who are we?
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is dedicated to advocating for and supporting refugees and displaced persons globally. Our Global Communications Unit is an integral part of the Partnerships, Advocacy, Engagement, and Resource Mobilization (PAER) Department. We play a crucial role in amplifying DRC’s voice and impact through strategic media engagement.
Based in Copenhagen, we’re now seeking a Media Relations Intern to support our efforts.
About the Global Media Relations internship
You will join a dynamic team and actively collaborate with colleagues across the organisation. In this role, you will take on your own set of responsibilities while contributing to critical media functions and le. Your internship will focus on the following main areas:
- Content creation: Assist in drafting press releases, articles, and social media posts to promote DRC’s initiatives and messages.
- Media monitoring: Track and analyse media coverage related to refugee issues and DRC’s activities, providing insights on trends and opportunities.
- Research: Focusing on DRC programmes, operations, reports and data, conduct research on relevant topics to identify potential global media opportunities and support the development of media strategies.
- Coordination and logistics: Help organize media events, including press conferences and interviews, ensuring all logistics are managed effectively.
- Administrative support: Maintain media contact lists and support the team with various administrative tasks as needed.
- Ad hoc support: Provide assistance on special projects and initiatives as they arise.
Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to explore a range of media-focused learning opportunities. We offer flexibility in the type of tasks, allowing you to influence your internship based on your study program, experience, and interests.
Please note that if you do not have the right to work in Denmark (through nationality or existing work visa), you will need to apply for it should you be selected for the internship. About you
To be successful in the Media Relations Intern role, we expect you to be flexible, eager to learn, and proactive. All employees and interns at DRC should master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the Lead, Collaborating, Striving for Excellence, and Demonstrating Integrity.
Required
- Education: Currently enrolled in a graduate-level university degree in Media Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, International Relations, or a related field.
- Language Skills: Fluency in written and spoken English is required, as you will be working with both Danish and international media. Proficiency in Danish is an advantage.
- Interests: International media landscape and its trends. A strong desire to learn about working in an international NGO and an enthusiasm for humanitarian and development advocacy, policy, and external engagement.
- Skills: Ability to work independently and systematically, maintaining a good structure and a focus on high quality while solving tasks in your area of responsibility. Have good interpersonal and communication skills in a multicultural environment.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office 365 and/or other software.
Desired
- Proven ability to identify a compelling story that deserves public attention.
- Knowledge of international and humanitarian and development policy, state and multilateral actors, and relevant international frameworks.
- Layout/editing skills is an advantage
People with a migrant or refugee background are highly encouraged to apply. It is a requirement that you are enrolled in a university in order to be considered for the internship.
We offer
Contract length: six months (August-January) subject to study requirements and further discussion.
Workplace: DRC Headquarters at Lyngbyvej 100, 2100 Copenhagen. Partly remote work is an option upon agreement with supervisor.
Start date: 1 August 2026
Working hours: Approximately 30 hours per week, subject to study requirements and further dialogue. We offer flexibility when you have study obligations.
The internship is unpaid. We offer:
- Two unpaid vacation days per month. The days can either be spent as you earn them or accumulated.
- Free lunch in our canteen (subject to our canteen being open)
