Organizational Context and Scope

Under the overall supervision of the Director, Coordination Office for the Mediterranean, Chief of Mission in Italy and Malta, Representative to the Holy See and the direct supervision of the Senior Public Information Associate, the incumbent will assist the Media and Communication Unit (MCU) in the implementation of Public Information activities of IOM Italy, contributing to internal and external communication activities.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist the Media and Communication Unit (MCU) and the Senior Public Information Associate in the implementation of Public Information activities, in line with IOM communication guidelines and media approaches.

  2. Assist in implementing social media plans to support tracking performance indicators and helping maintain IOM Italy’s social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook, and other channels.

  3. Assist in the drafting and updating of editorial plans in line with IOM Italy’s communication priorities.

  4. Assist in compiling data on communication activities’ performance and drafting reports.

  5. Assist in the administrative coordination of activities necessary to implement  information campaigns.

  6. Assist in the preparation and dissemination of public information materials (TV/Radio spot, public announcements, etc.).

  7. Support the production of printed and digital materials (e.g. posters, reports, flyers, brochures) on IOM’s activities, according to IOM rules and instructions.

  8. Assist in drafting or translating content (e.g. press releases) in English and Italian to be reviewed and used by MCU.

  9. Assist with internal communication by sharing information, within IOM Units in Italy, as well as with other IOM offices and among IOM colleagues in the field.

  10. Assist MCU and the thematic experts in organizing public information activities in English and Italian to promote the visibility of projects and initiatives at the national, regional and global level.

  11. Assist in preparing and publishing social media content, including videos, reels, carousels, and graphics, in line with MCU guidance.

  12. Assist in compiling media monitoring summaries, notes for the file, and data tables related to migration flows in the Mediterranean context.

  13. Assist in compiling background information and inputs to support the preparation of communication and advocacy materials.

  14. Assist MCU and the Senior Public Information Associate in the preparation of communication materials, including compiling inputs for talking points, briefing notes, and supporting routine responses to media queries.

  15. Any other duties that might be assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • High school diploma with four years of relevant experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Public/Media Relations, International Relations, Global Governance, or Law from an accredited institution, with two years of professional experience in communication, preferably in the field of migration.

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience

  • Good organizational and communication skills; good drafting, writing and reporting skills.
  • Experience in web and social media content creation, and basic content planning.

  • Experience in video editing and in creating graphic content.

Skills

  • Good knowledge of major migration dynamics/context in the Mediterranean.
  • Familiarity with communication practices within international organizations, including experience in supporting regional coordination and communication frameworks in the Mediterranean context.

  • Experience in the preparation of newsletters, compiling data tables, drafting notes for the file, and compiling media monitoring reports in English.

  • Experience in supporting internal communication activities and liaising with colleagues across different units.

  • Experience in social media preparation, video editing, and the development of communication materials for social media (including carousels, reels, and graphics).

  • Advanced computer literacy: proficiency in using Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Office 365; 

  • Good knowledge of the main graphic and communication tools currently used by the Media and Communication Unit (Adobe, Canva, CapCut, Mailchimp, etc.)

  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously as part of a team of colleagues of diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.

  • Ability to manage time and resources efficiently to meet goals and timelines and produce quality results and products.

  • Capacity to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.

Languages

All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).

For this position, fluency in Italian, both written and spoken, is required at a very advanced level, and proficiency in English is required.

Good knowledge of French and Spanish is considered an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
