JOB TITLE: Logistics Officer

TYPE OF CONTRACT/LEVEL: Fixed term / NOA

UNIT/DIVISION: Supply Chain

DUTY STATION (City, Country): Amman, Jordan

DURATION: 12 Months (renewable)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE APPOINTMENT:

Assisting over 100 million people in around 83 countries each year, the World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with local communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. To be effective in this mandate WFP must ensure that it reaches the right people and that it manages its relationship with those individuals and their communities in a responsible, accountable, and effective manner.

In 2012 WFP launched its largest humanitarian response operation to address the food needs of Syrian refugees in Jordan. Since then, WFP has been providing food assistance to vulnerable groups on monthly basis to secure a stable access to food and stabilize their food security.

Within the framework of its Country Strategic Plan 2023-2027, WFP continues to provide food assistance to the most vulnerable refugees, however at reduced levels in terms of number of beneficiaries and transfer value. Considering the funding constraints and the political shifts in Syrian in December 2024, WFP is currently providing food assistance to approximately 85,000 refugees in camps with a monthly transfer value of JOD 15 ($21) per person.

WFP Jordan further plays a crucial role in supporting humanitarian responses in the region as a corridor country. Considering the geo-political positioning of Jordan, WFP Jordan continues to support the humanitarian responses in Palestine, Syria and Lebanon, as a result of escalation of hostilities and increasing humanitarian needs in the region. Furthermore, with the aspiration of the Government of Jordan to position Jordan as a strategic humanitarian hub for the region, WFP Jordan will play a significant role in assisting and completing the efforts of the government in realizing this initiative.

WFP is seeking to recruit a National Logistics Officer to support logistics operations under the Jordan Country Office. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing logistics functions, retail activities, and supporting Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) compliance - contributing to an integrated supply chain approach to meeting the food assistance needs of beneficiaries.

  • Support in the coordination of Supply Chain CBT and retail activities of market assessments, retailer contracting and performance management, and payment reconciliation - ensuring compliance with WFP standards and operational continuity.

  • Oversee warehouse operations and inventory management — including stock planning, receipt, storage, and dispatch — ensuring accurate record-keeping, compliance with WFP storage standards, and timely availability of food and non-food commodities.

  • Support the implementation of WFP's FSQA guidelines and standards, ensuring compliance with FSQA regulations and alignment with supply chain strategies.

  • Collect and analyze data through research and networking with colleagues to recommend actions to the supervisor to improve performance of local logistics operations.

  • Conduct portions of financial analysis and budget reviews, drawing out insights and recommending actions to the supervisor to optimize use of available funds.

  • Guide support staff, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with analysis and queries.

  • Identify and build productive relationships with logistics colleagues and staff within the area of assignment to support an integrated approach to food assistance.
