The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. 

 
In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:

 
a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;
b) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or
c) are sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.
d) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.
e) are between 20 and 36 years of age.

 

Background Information

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Resources Management of the IOM Country Office based in Cairo, Egypt, and direct supervision of the National Human Resources Officer, the intern selected through advertised Call for CVs will be responsible and accountable for providing support to the HR Unit of Egypt CO. 

Responsibilities

Learning Objectives
  • Support to outreach, through publicizing the new vacancy announcements to the internal and external professional networks.

  • Schedule interview sessions and assist in coordinating both online and in-person written tests for candidates.

  • Follow up with the ICT team on the email creation of the newly hired workforce members and ensure that the required assets are prepared ahead of time.

  • Attend HR-related meetings and prepared meeting minutes, ensuring all action points, focal points and deadlines are captured, and follow up notifications are set.

  • Compile and prepare HR-related content for internal presentations and the monthly RMU Newsletter.

  • Assist in preparing HR reports, as requested, to support monthly reporting requirements for informed decision-making.

  • Provide logistical support for HR initiatives, including townhalls, and training sessions.

  • Assist with the coordination of onboarding sessions for new staff members, ensuring a smooth induction process with all involved units.

  • Follow up with staff to ensure mandatory training completion and generate regular progress reports on mandatory trainings.

  • Support the HR-related events, including staff development and training activities. Ensure event records are maintained, attendance is monitored, and the related documentation is properly archived on the Unit’s folder.

  • Review the HR shared point folders and ensure that they all are digitally compliant with the HQ instructions.

  • Prepare and send out announcements for new joiners according to the standard template.

  • Support absence and teleworking management function, including liaison with the ICT team to extract monthly attendance reports from the ICT Attendance Dashboard and flag potential issues. 

  • Any other duties as may assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in Business Administration, Finance, Management, Accounting, or a related field from an accredited academic institution (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or 
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme in any of the above (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or 
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as mentioned above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation

Experience

  • Previous experience in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in administrative tasks, document management, absence management etc.
  • Exposure to event planning, training coordination, or employee engagement activities.
  • Experience working in a multicultural or international environment is an advantage

  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to draft professional emails, reports, and presentations.
  • Active listening and analyzing data.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams).

Languages

For this internship, fluency in English and Arabic is required (oral and written).

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Notes

Depending on experience and location, interns are granted a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by their university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.

IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the internship. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
