Duties and Responsibilities
About UN-Habitat UN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable and resilient towns and cities. It is the focal point agency for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat envisions well-planned, well-governed and efficient cities and towns, with adequate housing, infrastructure and universal access to employment and basic services such as water, energy, and sanitation. The Urban Lab of UN-Habitat supports countries in developing urban planning methods and systems that address current urbanization challenges. It promotes urban planning approaches to address urban expansion and transformation. The Urban Lab collaborates with the Regional Office for Africa (ROAf) for the implementation of the activities related to the Purpose above described. Reporting and Communication The expert will be hired to collaborate closely with the Urban Lab team. He/she will be reporting to the Programme Management Officer, and will be coordinating with the Head of Sub Regional Hub, Southern Africa. Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Project Manager from the Urban Lab, the incumbent of the post will have to fulfil the following duties and responsibilities: - Prepare materials for strengthening the drafting of the Eco City Masterplan in Eswatini.
Qualifications/special skills
Minimum advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Architecture, Urban Planning and Design is a requirement, or related field that is relevant for sustainable urban development. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. At least 2 years of proven experience in drawing and preparing plan graphical material using computer assisted design tools, with special attention to data management and processing with GIS software is required. Good hand drawing / sketching of macro-scale plans is desirable. Good analytic and design skills in citywide planning and design is desibale
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this advertised position fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
