DRC is currently looking for a Mechanic ( Mechanical Clearance) in Kharkiv.

About the job

The Mechanic (Mechanical Clearance) will support DRC’s Humanitarian Mine Action operations in Kharkiv by ensuring the operational readiness, servicing, maintenance, and repair of the GCS 200 mechanical clearance machine.

The role is essential to ensuring that the machine is maintained in a safe, serviceable, and operational condition and ready for deployment in accordance with DRC HDP SOPs, internal regulations, and manufacturer specifications. The Mechanic will be part of the Humanitarian Mine Action team and will report to the Humanitarian Mine Action Technical Field Manager.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Ensure the GCS 200 machine is in serviceable and operational condition and ready for operation the next day at the end of each working day.
  • Ensure all required daily-use hand tools and workshop tools are available in the mobile workshop container/vehicle at the operational site.
  • Ensure correct and timely servicing and maintenance of the GCS 200 machine in accordance with the original manufacturer specifications.
  • Conduct daily checks, including first and last parade checks, as well as hour-based and scheduled maintenance checks.
  • Initiate timely fault finding and rectification.
  • Ensure sufficient consumable materials are available for daily GCS 200 operations at the work site.
  • Record, report, and document all faults or abnormalities on the GCS 200 machine in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the workshop, workshop tools, and other Mechanical Demining Team tools are well arranged, clean, and in good working condition.
  • Ensure all Mechanical Demining Team documentation and paperwork is correctly completed, including daily, weekly, and monthly log sheets, spare parts records, fault reports, and workshop contents.
  • Submit timely requests for all required spare parts, consumables, and tools.
  • Comply with DRC SOPs, safety procedures, internal regulations, and the DRC Code of Conduct.
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by the line manager, related to the achievement of DRC objectives.

About you

To be successful in this role as a Mechanic – Mechanical Clearance, candidates should have at least 5 years of practical working experience as a light/heavy-duty vehicle mechanic or as a mechanic for other types of mechanical demining or earth-moving machinery, such as bulldozers, front-end loaders, excavators, backhoes, bobcats, or similar equipment. Also have good technical discipline, and the ability to work safely and effectively in field conditions. You should be able to maintain, troubleshoot, and support the operational readiness of mechanical clearance machinery and related equipment.

Required

  • Good speaking, reading, and writing skills in Ukrainian
  • Knowledge and practical experience of electrics, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Light/heavy duty verified and approved/permitted driving licence – minimum driving license category B.
  • Verified training certificates of previous work experience and knowledge.
  • Receive minimum 21 days of Mechanic – Mechanical Clearance refresher training to become familiar with DRC HDP SOPs, working standards, and procedures.

Desirable

  • Technical high school education or equivalent years of experience.
  • Experience working on a Humanitarian Mine Action programme.
  • Pre-intermediate level of English.
