BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Regional Nurse will play a pivotal role in supporting both the Regional Medical Office in the management of staff health and safety across the organization. This position is central to ensuring that WFP staff and their dependents throughout Latin America and the Caribbean receive coordinated, high-quality medical support as well as access to comprehensive wellness programming.

RESPONSABILITIES AND SCOPE:

  • Collect, review, and prioritize all incoming medical information about staff and dependent ensuring that essential items are highlighted and accompanied by relevant background information before being integrated into the digital medical files for the Medical Officer’s attention.
  • Operationalize the Panama Travel Clinic for physical and remote consultation, including the preparation and distribution of travel health kits for staff scheduled for duty travel, as well as providing destination-specific health advice for staff in the region.
  • Advise staff on vaccination requirements, including referrals to travel health clinics in Panama for vaccinations, and conduct vaccination campaigns at the Regional Office and Country Offices.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality when handling sensitive medical information.
  • Receive clients, arrange referral consultations, visit patient admitted in Panama and respond to medical-administrative inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ensure adequate stocks of personal protective equipment within the LAC region and regularly service all medical supplies in the Panama office, including first aid kits, etc.
  • Engage in the Occupational Safety and Health Committee by evaluating health, safety, and environmental factors that may affect WFP personnel within the office, thereby supporting risk mitigation measures and promoting improved workplace safety.
  • Conduct regular reviews and testing of emergency and mass casualty response protocols to ensure their continued effectiveness and suitability.
  • Consolidate and report on health-related statistics including mortality, morbidity, evacuations, etc.
  • Conduct comprehensive health training and awareness programmes for staff, addressing subjects such as infectious disease outbreak response, first aid, and additional pertinent medical topics
  • Promote and provide preventive medical services to staff members (cancer screenings; cardiovascular risk assessments; explain VCCT for HIV testing, etc).

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

To provide operational support to meet the objectives of the Wellness Unit in LACRO.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Educations:   Active and valid professional nursing license.

Experience:   5 years of experience in clinical nursing care. Experience in travel medicine, tropical and infectious diseases. Experience as instructor/trainer in patient education classes (e.g.·First Aid, BLS instructor or similar health education classes);  Experience in any outbreak response and emergencies.

Knowledge and skills: Good knowledge of Microsoft Office softwares; Excellent team player skills

Languages: Spanish, English, French is an additional advantage.

Duration: 12 months.

This position is open to Panamanian citizens or residents with a permanent visa.

Fixed-Term appointments are for a continuous period of one year or more and shall have a specified expiration date. The initial appointment is subject to a probationary period of one year.

Successful candidates will be placed in a roster for two (2) years.
