Job Description

Introduction

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

 

Project Context and Scope

The consultant will work under the day-to-day supervision of the Protection Programme Manager and in close coordination with the Head of Programmes. The consultant is expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy while aligning outputs with IOM and interagency coordination standards.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

• Master’s degree in public policy, Social/Political Science, Research, Project Management, International [SE1] Relations, International Development, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience; or

• University degree in the above fields with seven years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

• Experience in coordination of emergency humanitarian operations, management andplanning;

• Substantial experience in reporting on projects with large-scale donations, withexperienceinthefieldofresearch,monitoringand/orevaluation;

• Proven experience with strategic planning approaches, monitoring, budget control, project development and reportwriting;

• Previousexperienceworkingonsocialprojects,suchasstrengtheningsocial inclusion and promoting the rights of migrants andrefugees.

Skills

• Solid analytical and draftingskills;

• Proven experience in writing proposals andreports.

• Leadership in partnership building and consensualdecision-making;

• Solidknowledgeinprogramplanningandimplementationofobjectives;

• Excellent internal and external communicationskills.

• The consultant is expected to adhere to IOM’s code of conduct and humanitarian principles, including accountability to affected populations, protection mainstreaming, and do-no-harm approaches

Languages

For this consultancy, Fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of Arabic is considered an asset.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Notes

IOM covers Consultants against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the consultancy. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
