Mission and objectives
Context
In Latin America, migration is a complex and multidimensional phenomenon influenced by multiple economic, political, and social factors. Colombia is a key country within the region’s migration dynamics, serving as a point of entry, exit, transit, and return. Currently, more than 2.8 million Venezuelan migrants reside in the country. In this context, IOM—as the United Nations agency that is the technical authority and key partner on migration issues—has a Communications Plan. The plan aims at promoting a positive and human-centered narrative on migration, as well as raising public awareness about the importance of ensuring safe, orderly, dignified, and regular migration. Through this plan, IOM seeks to mobilize support from different audiences for key initiatives developed within its three strategic lines: (1) saving lives and protecting people on the move; (2) promoting durable solutions to displacement; and (3) advancing regular migration pathways. The communications plan should contribute to shaping a national narrative on migration by amplifying the voices of migrants and displaced persons, combating misinformation and xenophobia through data, objective information, and testimonies that highlight the opportunities migration brings to economic and social development.
The successful candidate will support IOM Colombia programming by developing content and information products such as media monitoring, newsletters, press releases, and success stories. The person will support the Communications Unit's objective of raising the visibility of IOM activities in Colombia. The incumbent will support producing compelling and impactful audio-visual stories, narratives, products, deliverables, and reports about IOM’s work and activities using different formats (video, photography, audio).
