Background
IOM Hungary is implementing a complex, multi-component project funded under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), aiming to enhance the social and economic inclusion of third-country nationals, with a particular focus on individuals displaced from Ukraine.
The project provides integrated support through a combination of services, including housing and livelihood assistance with case management, information provision, labour market integration, MHPSS support, Hungarian language training, community programmes, and activities supporting children’s school integration. The intervention is implemented in coordination with multiple partners and service providers, following EU and national policy frameworks.
Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Project Associate (Social Inclusion & Integration), the intern will work closely with the project team of the Social Inclusion and Integration Unit. The intern will receive day-to-day guidance and mentoring, including regular feedback on assigned tasks.
The intern will contribute to ongoing project implementation activities and will be supported in gradually increasing their level of responsibility, progressing from observation to more active participation in project-related tasks.

The internship aims to provide practical experience in the implementation of a complex, multi-component project supporting the social inclusion and integration of third-country nationals.
By the end of the internship, the intern is expected to: - Gain understanding of how integration programmes are designed and implemented in practice;
- Develop skills in project planning, coordination, implementation, and reporting;
- Acquire hands-on experience across key service areas, including case management support, labour market integration, community programmes, and language training coordination;
- Strengthen organizational, communication, and teamwork skills within an international working environment;

Gain insight into stakeholder coordination and service delivery mechanisms involving multiple partners.
The internship will be based on structured on-the-job learning, combining observation, assisted work, and active participation:

Observation:
The intern will observe project planning processes, coordination mechanisms, service delivery activities, and internal workflows of project implementation. -
Assisted contribution:
The intern will assist with a variety of tasks, including activity organization, documentation, preparation of materials, coordination support, and reporting inputs. -
Active participation:
The intern will progressively participate in selected project management tasks, including:- preparation and implementation of project activities (e.g. trainings, community events, service delivery support)
- contribution to reporting and documentation processes
- participation in team meetings and coordination activities

Qualifications
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- University degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in International Relations, Social Sciences, Migration Studies, Sociology, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field
- Alternatively, final-year students in the above fields are eligible
Experience
- Prior professional experience is not required
- Previous academic or volunteer experience in social inclusion, migration, or humanitarian contexts is considered an advantage
Skills
- Strong interest in migration, social inclusion, and integration programmes
- Good organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, multicultural environment
- Strong communication skills (written and oral)
- Attention to detail and ability to handle administrative and coordination tasks
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Hungarian and/or other relevant languages (e.g. Ukrainian or Russian) is an asset
- Ability to work in line with IOM core values: professionalism, integrity, and respect for diversity
Languages
For this internship, fluency in English and Hungarian (oral and written) is required.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Notes
Depending on experience and location, interns are granted a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by their university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.
IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the internship. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
