Unit Context:
The Technology Platforms Team (ITSPL) is anchored in the Chief Technology Officer (ITSTO) division in ITS. ITS Technology Office (ITSTO) drives technology-enabled innovation and delivers the digital backbone for WBG's mission. It develops future-ready technology strategy, modernizes infrastructure, manages innovation, and fosters agility. The unit collaborates across the organization to leverage technology as a force multiplier, accelerating development impact and digital transformation globally.
ITSPL delivers secure, cloud-first IT platforms with automation, self-service, and Platform Engineering (IaC). It manages databases, integrations, & cloud ops to ensure reliable, scalable, & cost-effective alignment with enterprise standards. The primary programs that the ITSTO unit is responsible for is providing a wide range of technical infrastructure services to meet the institution's computing needs, from mid-range servers, large scale servers, and the respective system, network, and supporting software on those platforms. It provides engineering, integration, and system administration services for Server Administration, Server Security, Backup/Restore, Storage, Virtual infrastructure (on premise and in cloud) and Data Center Management.
Duties and accountabilities:
Bridges legacy middleware stability and cloud-native modernization through SRE practices, automation engineering, and DevSecOps - ensuring enterprise platform reliability, self-service capability, and continuous operational improvement.
• Implement and operationalize SRE practices - SLO/SLI definition, error budget management, observability, and incident response across hybrid cloud and on-premises platforms
• Manage and support legacy middleware technologies (JBoss, Apache, WebSphere, IIS) while actively driving modernization toward cloud-native and containerized architectures
• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) frameworks using Terraform and GitOps, and automation workflows that eliminate toil and reduce manual intervention
• Build self-service and self-healing solutions auto-remediation playbooks, chaos engineering exercises, and proactive alerting to increase platform resilience and reduce dependency on human touchpoints
• Monitor platform health through observability tooling (Dynatrace, Splunk) and drive continuous improvement against defined SLOs and reliability targets
• Lead knowledge transfer, documentation, and runbook development to eliminate single points of failure and build team-wide operational capability
• Contribute to the Platform as a Product strategy by embedding SRE principles into all platform deliverables, supporting cloud adoption, and advising on architectural decisions for reliability and scalability
• Ensure compliance with ITSM processes, security standards, and business continuity requirements including disaster recovery planning and SLA adherence
Selection Criteria
• Master's degree with 5 years of experience or a
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 4–5 years of hands-on SRE experience with demonstrated application of SRE principles SLO/SLI, error budgets, observability, incident response, and chaos engineering in high-availability environments; SRE certification is added advantage
• Proven experience with legacy middleware platforms (JBoss, Apache, WebSphere, IIS) alongside modern application stacks (.NET, Java, NodeJS, Angular)
• Strong proficiency in DevOps/DevSecOps tooling -Terraform, Kubernetes/AKS, Docker, GitOps, CI/CD pipelines, and GitHub/GitLab/Azure Repos; experience with JFrog Artifactory is an advantage
• Hands-on experience with multi-cloud platforms (Azure and AWS); cloud certification in Azure or AWS is an added advantage
• Solid scripting and automation skills in Python, PowerShell, or Bash with a track record of reducing operational toil through engineering solutions
• Experience with monitoring and observability platforms including Dynatrace, Splunk, Prometheus, and Grafana; ability to design dashboards and alert frameworks tied to SLOs
• Working experience in Agile and SAFe delivery environments
• Strong database skills across relational and NoSQL platforms (PostgreSQL, MySQL) with experience in PAAS and COTS solution management
• Excellent communication skills - able to translate complex technical concepts into clear documentation, runbooks, and stakeholder-facing reporting
