Part of the Strategic Partnerships Division (SPD), the Private Sector Partnerships Section (PSP) leads UN Women’s engagement with the private sector, corporations, philanthropy, foundations, and individuals - both in terms of a substantive components and resource mobilization - and it drives a wide range of UN Women’s global initiatives: HeForShe, Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) and the Unstereotype Alliance (UA). It also leads the work with all UN Women National Committees, and on the development of individual/digital giving for private sector. PSP’s main aims are to ensure that UN Women develops and sustains high quality and impact focused partnerships to achieve maximum results for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The PSP team is seeking a Communications and Advocacy Consultant to support digital communications, advocacy, and audience engagement efforts, with a particular focus on strengthening the visibility and reach of HeForShe. The role will be responsible for supporting the management and development of the HeForShe website, social media channels, and broader digital presence to enhance engagement with key audiences.
Under the supervision of the Partnerships Engagement and Special Initiatives Advisor, the Consultant will develop and implement digital campaigns designed to increase awareness, strengthen male engagement, and drive meaningful action from organizations and individuals in support of gender equality. They will create compelling digital content across platforms, support campaign execution, and help ensure consistent, audience-focused messaging across HeForShe communications initiatives.
Description of Responsibilities /Scope of Work:
Develop communications and advocacy content for HeForShe, male allyship and Barbershop 2.0 and support broader PSP initiatives
• Develop and produce communications and advocacy content that highlights the global implementation of HeForShe across digital platforms, including the website, social media channels, newsletters, and other outreach opportunities.
• Draft and adapt communications materials on positive masculinities and male allyship that can be localized by UN Women field offices, National Committees, and partners, particularly around key international moments and campaigns.
• Research, write, edit, and publish engaging content for digital platforms, ensuring messaging is clear, compelling, and aligned with brand standards.
• Support the development of digital and print communications materials, including email campaigns, website content, blogs, visuals, and video assets to strengthen audience engagement.
• Review digital content to ensure accuracy, consistency, functionality, and alignment with branding guidelines.
• Maintain accountability for the quality and integrity of communications outputs.
Support coordinated implementation of HeForShe communications and advocacy efforts, including promotion of male allyship and Barbershop Toolkit 2.0
• Support coordination with UN Women field offices and National Committees to amplify local implementation efforts and ensure visibility of partner activities.
• Support alignment of communications efforts across National Committees, HeForShe partners, and broader PSP initiatives.
• Support coordination for campaign implementation with internal stakeholders and external partners.
• Coordinate communications inputs and timelines from partners to support campaign delivery.
• Collaborate with communications colleagues across the organization to ensure messaging consistency and alignment with corporate policies and priorities.
Support communications efforts for partnerships and advocacy initiatives across PSP
• Support the development of communications plans, social media toolkits, and campaign materials to launch new partnerships and strengthen engagement with existing partners.
• Collaborate across PSP teams to support cross-sectional communications priorities and campaigns.
• Contribute to coordination efforts that strengthen collaboration and consistency across PSP communications activities.
• Liaise with advocacy partners and external stakeholders to support engagement across PSP initiatives.
Support advocacy communications aligned with HeForShe and UN Women’s Transforming Patriarchal Masculinities (TPM) approach and support promotion of Barbershop Toolkit 2.0
• Develop advocacy talking points, messaging materials, and communications assets for key international events and campaigns aligned with the TPM approach, and focusing on male allyship.
• Create social media content and digital campaign materials to promote male allyship and gender equality initiatives, with focus on Barbershop 2.0.
• Support the development of communications tools and materials that help partners understand and apply the TPM approach.
• Develop and disseminate communications packages that support localized implementation of HeForShe initiatives and emerging national chapter engagement.

Required Qualifications
Education and Certification:
• Master's degree (or equivalent) in International Politics, International Relations, Communication, Arts, Marketing or other related field is required.
• A Bachelor’s degree in combination with additional two years of experience may be accepted in lieu of master’s degree.
Experience:
• A minimum of 1 year of experience in communications, social media, press relations or similar is required
• In depth knowledge and experience of working with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) is required.
• Experience working for or familiarity with the UN system is a preference
Languages:
• Fluency in English is required.
• Knowledge of any other UN official language is an asset.
