Background:

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Placing women's rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. In this context, the Communications and Advocacy Division at UN Women Headquarters supports the positioning of women’s empowerment and gender equality as key issues on the international agenda and establishes UN Women’s role as the global authority.

The Media Analyst consultancy is anchored in UN Women’s strategic priority to strengthen its global media positioning and shape public narratives on gender equality, the rights of women and girls, and emerging issues such as digital violence, AI, climate and the care economy. Operating in a fast-paced and politically sensitive global media environment, the consultant will support the media team in navigating complex news cycles, reputational risks and high-visibility moments, working closely with internal stakeholders across headquarters, regional and country offices, as well as external media partners and journalists. The role requires strong collaboration, responsiveness, and clear communication within a highly coordinated global communications function. While working under the guidance of the media team, the consultant is expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy in delivering media monitoring, analysis and insights, proactively identifying trends and contributing to strategic decision-making within the scope of the assignment.

The consultant will be reporting to the Media Relations Manager who will be the point of contact on the contract and payment issues.
