We are now looking for a new Chief Risk Officer to join our team to do banking that makes a difference

The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) leads the strategic oversight of NIB's risk management framework, covering all material risks, both financial and non-financial, while fostering a culture of risk awareness and ensuring adherence to the highest standards of accountability, transparency, and ethical conduct. The CRO plays a central role in promoting the second line of defense, maintaining a balance between innovation, business growth, and prudent risk management. As a member of the Executive Committee, the CRO contributes to the bank’s overall success, co-owning business results with the first line of defense while ensuring that independent risk control functions are upheld.

Main responsibilities

  • Define and manage NIB's risk appetite, setting specific thresholds to balance growth, innovation, and prudent risk management
  • Ensure NIB adheres to its Statutes, Principles for Capital and Liquidity Management, and Risk Appetite Statement
  • Promote and champion the second line of defense risk control function, ensuring effective oversight of the first line of defense while facilitating strategic, transparent discussions between both lines
  • Foster a dynamic risk culture that aligns with NIB's long-term objectives and business model
  • Oversee the Integrity & Compliance function, ensuring that NIB follows best practices in transparency, ethics, and data protection
  • Ensure high-quality, up-to-date risk monitoring and reporting systems
  • Act as a Member in the Executive Committee, the Asset, Liability & Risk Committee and Mandate, Credit & Compliance Committee providing risk insights in business planning and operational strategies

Qualifications and experience

  • Ability to balance innovation with prudent risk management, fostering growth while defining and maintaining NIB’s risk appetite
  • Capability of envisioning long-term goals, developing actionable strategies, and setting clear steps to ensure future success and sustainability
  • Ability to embrace and lead change initiatives to continuously improve operations and collaboration
  • Interest in and understanding AI and emerging technologies, with the ability to identify opportunities while considering associated risks and ethical implications
  • Self-awareness, curiosity and commitment to personal growth
  • University level degree in a relevant field
  • Fluency in English, coupled with excellent writing skills
