Job Description: Young Professional, Independent Evaluation Office

The New Development Bank (NDB”) provides the opportunities to qualified and motivated young professionals to develop their professional skills and expertise in a dynamic multicultural environment.

The Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) is responsible for evaluating NDB projects, programmes and related activities, and the Director General (DG) of IEO reports directly and exclusively to the Bank’s Board of Directors. NDB is inviting applications for the position of Young Professional in IEO. Young Professionals are full-time regular staff and will have a four-year employment contract with NDB. Under the leadership and guidance of the DG IEO, the Young Professional will gain valuable on-the-job experience in a dynamic multicultural environment and is expected to multitask and contribute to the implementation of the Evaluation Policy and the annual IEO work programme approved by the Board, while gaining a broad overview of NDB’s operations, policies and procedures.

The Young Professional will conduct the following tasks:

  • Collect and analyse data on project progress and results.
  • Collect and analyse data on overall loan disbursements, project management costs, and financial progress by project components.
  • Collect other types of data to support different types of IEO evaluations.
  • From credible external sources, compile and analyse data on social and demographic indicators and macro-economic trends at the national and sub-national levels.
  • Prepare synthesis reports based on documents reviews.
  • Undertake benchmarking analysis to mine lessons and good practices from peer organizations on relevant topics.
  • Conduct research to develop bibliographies for evaluations including both internal and external references.
  • Support the preparation of evaluation reports and related documents by tabulating, analyzing and presenting data in a variety of visual formats as well as drafting sections of the reports/documents.
  • Prepare power point presentation summarizing evaluation findings.
  • Draft speaking points on relevant evaluations for the supervisor.
  • Support the organization of evaluation missions and knowledge sharing seminars, and participate in such activities, as requested.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time.

Position requirements

  • Nationality: NDB encourages all qualified candidates who are nationals of NDB member countries to apply.
  • Education qualification: Master’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited university in development economics, economics, evaluation, management sciences, international relations, business administration, data management, statistics, public policy, and other related fields.
  • Professional experience: Experience in independent evaluation and/or self-evaluation; project/programme management; quality assurance; portfolio management; and similar fields in multilateral development organizations, government institutions, private sector, think tanks, research and academic organizations, and non-governmental organizations.
  • Years of experience: Minimum of three years of relevant full-time professional experience.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills with high resilience and drive in achieving objectives and goals.
  • High desire to challenge the status quo and bring in new ideas, innovation, and approaches.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural work environment fostering a climate of teamwork and collaboration.
