About the job

The Emergency Unit (EMU) provides emergency support to DRC Country Operations and sits within the department of Strategy, Programming and Results (SPR) at DRC HQ. The EMU at HQ comprises the Head of Emergencies (Head of Unit), 3 Global Emergency Advisors and 1 Global Emergency Specialist and an Access Advisor. The Site Management & Coordination (SMC) sector lead also sits within the Emergency Unit. The EMU also has a team of around 15 roving emergency specialists (EMPACT). The intern will be part of the Emergency Unit and will assist its colleagues with various SMC and Emergency related tasks such as:

  • Support in information management and internal communication of DRC's emergency responses, including drafting and filing documents, and keeping the intranet pages updated.
  • Support exchange and learning by planning and facilitating global SMC Community of Practice events, regular webinar series, and promoting ongoing engagement. Maintain the SMC intranet pages and resource hub.
  • Assist in data collection and the preparation of information to support SMC thematic outputs, including conducting desk reviews or preparing case studies on specific topics, and drafting summary reports, tools and guidance.  You will have the opportunity to focus on the topics which most interest you in discussion with the SMC Advisor. 
  • Support in the desk analysis of fragile humanitarian contexts, including media monitoring. Track triggers for the launch of emergency responses and undertake trend analysis on responses.
  • Assist in planning, facilitating, and documenting After-Action Reviews of DRC emergency responses. 
  • Support with administrative tasks to enable the effective coordination of DRC’s roving emergency team to countries experiencing emergencies (EMPACT) and support the planning and implementation of training events on Emergency Response for DRC country office staff.

About you

Required

  • Relevant educational background for example in international law, social work, public administration, international relations, development, political science or other social sciences relevant to DRC’s work.
  • Interest in conflict and displacement, fragile states, and humanitarian emergencies.
  • Interest in internal administration and systems, detail-oriented and organized approach.
  • Be fluent in spoken and written English.

It is a requirement that you are enrolled in a university during the whole duration of the internship period in order to be considered for the internship.

We offer

Contract length: 4-6 months subject to study requirements and further dialogue

Work location: Lyngbyvej 100, 2100 Copenhagen Ø, just by Ryparken station

Start date: August 2026. We can be flexible on the start date.

Working hours: Approximately 30 hours per week, subject to study requirements and further dialogue. We offer flexibility when you have study obligations next to the internship. 

The internship is not paid but we offer: 

  • 2,08 (unpaid) vacation days per month. The days can either be spent as you earn them or be accumulated 
  • Free lunch in our canteen (subject to our canteen being open) 
  • Free participation in our year-end/summer party 

Please note that if you do not have the right to work in Denmark (through nationality or existing work visa), you will need to apply for it should you be selected for the internship. DRC will support with the process, but please note it can take up to three months from initiating the process. You can read more here
