Organizational Context and Scope

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (COM), Resources Management Officer (RMO), Supply Chain Officer in Chisinau and the direct supervision of the Snr. Procurement/Logistics Associate, the Cleaner will be responsible and accountable for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation standards within the IOM office premises in Chisinau.

The incumbent will support the effective functioning of the office environment by providing daily cleaning services, including office spaces, sanitary facilities, and surrounding yard areas, ensuring a safe and conducive workplace for staff and visitors. The Cleaner will work in coordination with the Resources Management Unit and other support staff, contributing to the maintenance and upkeep of office facilities in accordance with IOM standards and local health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  1. Daily tasks:

    · Offices / Reception – empty paper/waste bins, dust and water all IOM office flowers and clean pots;

    · IT equipment – dust and clean all printers located in the IOM office. For this purpose, IT Units shall provide special cleaning kits. Cleaning of the desks and equipment of the desks (computer, computer screens, keyboard, mouse, calculator, telephone, desk lamp, etc.) will not be part of this contract. Computer screen, keyboard and mouse cleaning will be done by the people occupying the desks, while computers, calculators, telephones, lamps etc. cleaning will be done by the outsourced cleaning company;

    · Meeting / conference rooms – empty paper/waste bins, clean and re-arrange tables and chairs. As per requests, ensure and/or serve water/coffee/tea for and/or during various events in IOM office;

    · Bathrooms – wash floors, clean mirrors, disinfect washbasins and toilet seats, replenish with toilet paper, paper towels, liquid soap, toilet disinfectant, etc.;

  2. · Kitchens – clean floors, tables, sinks, empty waste bins, replenish with soap, dishes washing liquid, kitchen paper towels. Maintain and clean kitchens’ appliances (refrigerator, microwaves, coffee machines, tea kettles, etc.). Wash the dishes - cups and glasses used during the meetings only.

  3. · Corridors – wash floors, dust and clean equipment (printers, shredders), water flowers, ensure wet cleaning of the carpets in the reception/common area;

  4. · Staircase – sweep and wash the outdoor front entry steps & access ramp, clean the handrails;

  5. · Report of any equipment malfunctioning.

  6. Weekly tasks:

    · Offices, corridors, kitchens, meeting / conference room – clean coolers;

  7. · Kitchens – polish cupboards, clean the refrigerators (each Friday noon), microwaves, coffee machines, tea kettles, etc.).

  8. · Basement – wash floors, remove the spider webs;

· Any other duty within the incumbent's capabilities as assigned by the Chief of Mission or RMO.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • School diploma and relevant experience in the cleaning services.

Experience

  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage 

Skills

  •   Ability to perform cleaning tasks efficiently and maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene 

  •   Good knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and safe use of cleaning equipment 

  •   Basic understanding of health, safety and hygiene standards (including handling of cleaning chemicals) 

  •   Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet daily cleaning schedules 

  •   Attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision 

  •   Reliability, punctuality, and strong sense of responsibility 

  •   Ability to perform manual tasks (lifting, standing, repetitive work) 

  •   Ability to identify and report maintenance or hygiene issues promptly 

  •   Basic communication skills to interact with staff and supervisors 

  •   Flexibility to adapt to changing workloads (e.g., seasonal cleaning, outdoor/yard maintenance)

Languages

For this position, fluency in Romanian and Russian is required (oral).

Basic knowledge of English is desirable, but not mandatory.
