Duties and Responsibilities

The UN General Assembly mandates the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty. Reporting Line This position is remote and is located in the Office of the Executive Director. The Social Media Consultant will report to the Special Assistant to the Executive Director. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Plan, schedule and publish approved content across LinkedIn, X, Instagram and Facebook. Manage day-to-day channel activity, ensuring timely posting and active audience engagement. 2. Serves as community manager for the Executive Director’s social media accounts. Monitors and moderates comments on social media posts, intervening as appropriate to answer questions and guide the conversation. 3. Produce engaging multimedia content — including graphics, stories, reels, and written posts for the Executive Directors' social media channels. 4. Research trends and posts from partners and suggest reposts. 5. Collaborate with social media focal points across the organization as and where needed. 6. Assist with the maintenance and updating of a social media editorial calendar for the ED, identifying campaign opportunities, key events, milestones and humanitarian anniversaries. 7. Collaborate with the on-ground team to ensure all content aligns with ongoing campaigns and communication goals.

Qualifications/special skills

A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, digital marketing, or a related field is required. A minimum of 2 years of experience managing social media channels stellar social copywriting and editing skills are required. Ability to translate technical and nuanced information into clear, emotional and engaging content for broad public audiences is desirable. Experience using social media scheduling tools is desirable. Experience using design tools such as Canva and Adobe Suite is desirable. Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask is desirable. Strong understanding of social media platforms and content creation is desirable. Ability to create engaging written content and monitor audience engagement is desirable. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with a virtual team is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Fluency (both oral and written) in English is required; knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
