Your team
You will be part of the Information Governance Division in the Directorate General Secretariat. Our Directorate General provides advice to support decision-making and helps knowledge flow by making information accessible, findable and usable. It also ensures the highest standards of ethics, administration and transparency at the ECB, thus fostering good governance. Our Division has around 50 staff members providing the policy framework, services and tools to ensure ECB staff can access and make full use of internal and external knowledge and information.
In your role as Information Management Specialist (Librarian), you will be part of the Library Services team of about 12 members of staff dedicated to meeting the evolving information needs of ECB staff. We manage the services and tools that simplify the retrieval, access and use of external information.
The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.
Your role
As an Information Management Specialist (Librarian), you will:
- contribute to and oversee the day-to-day library operations of our first-level enquiry desk through the common knowledge management (KM) support desk, including the regular maintenance of the library knowledge bases;
- coordinate tasks related to the management of the Library’s space and print collections, including supporting the organisation of on-site and hybrid events in the ECB Library;
- explain and promote KM services, tools and techniques that can help ECB staff retrieve and use information, including the drafting of intranet posts promoting library and KM services;
- design and deliver added-value library and KM solutions, including tailored newsletters and alerts;
- leverage AI-powered tools to enhance library operations, including process cataloguing, metadata enrichment and the delivery of innovative information services that meet the evolving needs of our ECB community.
For this role we are seeking candidates who demonstrate the potential for growth, and we will support the selected candidate in their development of the required skills.
We actively support professional development for our staff. Besides learning opportunities such as training and mentoring, we encourage and support horizontal mobility after some years in the same position.
The position offers you excellent opportunities to develop broad library and knowledge management expertise in a dynamic institutional environment, working at the heart of the ECB’s research and information ecosystem. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.
Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
- a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in librarianship, information management, knowledge management or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
- in addition to the above, a minimum of two years’ experience in libraries, including delivering and supporting library services in international/European organisations;
- professional experience in performing standard library operations, including cataloguing, fulfilment and collection management;
- excellent interpersonal skills, with strong listening and communication abilities;
- ability to work both independently and as part of a multicultural team, with empathy and good planning skills;
- awareness of the use of new technologies in libraries and intellectual curiosity to explore and apply novel tools;
- experience of using library management systems (library service platforms, discovery systems, current awareness systems);
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- experience in providing technical support for on-site and hybrid events and for accessing subscribed information services on mobile devices;
- an understanding of knowledge management;
- an ability to troubleshoot in the field of library resources, user access and IT tools.
You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs.
You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe.
You are motivated to be part of our team and to develop and use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.
