JOB TITLE: WFP Volunteer – Climate & Resilience Analytics Support

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The Regional Office for the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe (MENAEERO) supports World Food Programme (WFP) Country Offices in strengthening climate resilience, climate risk management and shock‑responsive programming in contexts affected by protracted crises, climate change and compounding shocks. This includes providing analytical and strategic support to inform programme design, alignment with national climate and development priorities, and positioning for climate and development finance.
As climate risks intensify across the region, there is a growing demand for timely, high‑quality analysis and synthesis of publicly available climate, environmental and development data to inform internal strategy development and decision‑making. In this context, the MENAEERO Resilience and Climate team seeks short‑term support through the WFP Volunteer modality to assist with non‑sensitive analytical and research tasks during the summer period.
The purpose of this assignment is to provide analytical and desk‑based research support on climate and resilience topics, contributing to the preparation of non‑confidential analytical outputs, internal briefing materials and knowledge products. Working under close supervision, the volunteer will support internal analytical workstreams without access to sensitive or confidential information.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Head of Resilience and Climate, the volunteer will:
1. Conduct desk-based research and literature reviews on climate risk, resilience approaches and national climate strategies in selected countries
2. Support mapping of publicly available climate and development finance instruments against regional programmatic priorities
3. Compile, clean and synthesise data from public sources into non-sensitive analytical summaries
4. Support preparation of basic data visualisations, tables and presentation materials for internal use
5. Assist with organising and maintaining non-confidential reference materials and knowledge resources
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
1. Short analytical briefs or synthesis notes based on desk research
2. Non-sensitive datasets and basic data visualisations derived from public sources
3.Draft internal briefing or presentation materials supporting climate and resilience work
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education: Background in climate science, environmental studies, political science, international relations, development studies, economics, or related fields
Knowledge & Skills: Strong research, writing and synthesis skills; ability to produce clear and concise briefing materials; proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint
Languages: Excellent written and spoken English; Arabic is an asset
