Are you a recent communications graduate, curious, creative and skilled in absorbing complex information to produce effective and impactful communications? Do you enjoy gathering information, researching and writing articles, reports and newsletters? Are you at ease with video, social media and web tools? Contribute your skills to communicate on key matters in occupational Health & Safety and environmental protection in a unique place: CERN.
You will join a small team within the occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Protection (HSE) Department, to develop material in different formats and channels to disseminate timely information to the CERN Community. You will also contribute to the production of the public-facing CERN biennial sustainability report, aligned with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards.
Working closely with the HSE Communications & Environment Coordinator, you will support internal and external communications initiatives spanning the HSE Department's activities.
Your responsibilities
- Contributing to the production of different types of content and to the choice of appropriate communications channels (written, media, web) in line with the HSE communications plan spanning all HSE domains.
- Collaborating with CERN services, including the audiovisual and design teams, for the development of material to support communications.
- Creating content and ensuring regular monitoring and updates of the HSE Department website content and proposing improvements and upgrades in collaboration with the HSE website coordinator and the HSE Groups.
- Producing short videos to complement written and photo-based communications.
- Support the writing of announcements and articles for the CERN Community Bulletin and other publications on matters relevant to HSE activities.
- Assist in the production of the biennial CERN sustainability report Environment chapters in alignment with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards: this includes the drafting of chapter content, developing webpages and developing communications (web and video) on relevant newsworthy projects in a timely manner.
Your profile
- Experience in communicating scientific and technical information in various formats and different channels (online, media, web).
- A proven ability to research, absorb, consolidate and simplify complex information for dissemination to different audiences and contexts.
Skills
- Knowledge of basic video production and editing (FinalCutPro, Davinci resolve, or equivalent).
- Knowledge of Web content management (e.g. WordPress or equivalent).
- Knowledge of producing designs and visual material (e.g. InDesign, Photoshop, Canva or equivalent).
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills, for both short- and long- content from articles and newsletters to comprehensive reports. Spoken and written French is a distinct advantage.
Eligibility criteria:
- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Communication, preferably Science Communication (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
- Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
