The Manufacturing, Agribusiness & Services (MAS) Industry Group plays an important role in supporting IFC’s strategic priorities, covering investments in the manufacturing, agribusiness and services sectors (‘services’ include health and education plus tourism, retail and property). MAS’ sectors play a critical role in providing goods and services to consumers; their development helps address core needs and create jobs thereby contributing to government revenue and stimulating growth.  These sectors can account for as much as 80% of overall economic activity in a country.

The MAS team covering Europe seeks a Senior Investment Officer to work in IFC’s Vienna office. The primary focus of the position is business development, execution and client relationship management of large exposures in the region.

Duties and Accountabilities:

 Among other responsibilities, the chosen candidate will:
• Lead the origination, evaluation, structuring and negotiation of new transactions aligned with Country Partnership Frameworks of the countries in Europe by anticipating market trends, client needs and employing sector/country knowledge.
• Shape business leads into actionable concepts ready for mandate by identifying and screening potential investment opportunities, preparing investment thesis, and leading the structuring of those opportunities that strike a balance between the client’s expectations and protecting IFC’s and other investors’ rights.
• Bring lessons learned from previous transactions and evaluations of development impact into discussions on the design and structuring of new transactions.
• Use networks to keep projects moving and collaborate with key internal stakeholders to obtain buy-in on deals and negotiate risk and mitigation strategies.  Ensure seamless communication flow and cooperation among all IFC team members and external stakeholders.
• Develop assigned staff and members of the broader team through mentoring, coaching, and providing on-the-job learning opportunities.
• Coordinate closely with social, environmental, technical assistance, and upstream colleagues to add value to clients’ businesses, find pragmatic solutions to sector challenges, and achieve sustainable development impact.
• Mobilize additional investors and funding, including B-loans, parallel loans, and other forms of private capital, to maximize development impact.
• Contribute to knowledge management, strategy development, and sharing of best practices within IFC and externally.
• Engage with external stakeholders, including government officials, regulators, industry associations, and multilateral partners, for sector development and advocacy.

Selection Criteria

• Strong business development and client relationship management skills, with an excellent track record of origination and execution.
• Experience in mobilizing third-party capital (e.g., B-loans, parallel loans, syndications) and working with co-investors with a focus on maximizing Private Capital Mobilization.
• Demonstrated knowledge of relevant industries, market trends, and regulatory environments in target countries/regions.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in finance, investment, or banking, with a proven track record in sourcing, structuring, closing, and monitoring investments.
• Demonstrated expertise in financial modelling, credit analysis, and structuring a variety of financial instruments (debt, equity, mezzanine, blended finance).
• Ability to interact independently and credibly with senior management of clients, financial and technical partners, government officials, regulators, and multilateral organizations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; fluency in English required, additional regional languages preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in diverse, multicultural teams.
• Demonstrated commitment to sustainable development, impact investing, and the highest ethical standards.
• Experience in knowledge management, strategy development, and sharing best practices within and outside the organization.
• Ability to provide thought leadership, contribute to innovation, and support product development.
• Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent qualification).
• Willingness and ability to travel frequently as required.
