Senior IT Product Manager

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring a Senior IT Product Manager within the Corporate Applications team in ITS.

This role is based in Basel, Switzerland; however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Purpose of the job:

The role involves leading cross-functional initiatives, mentoring team members, and coordinating with stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions.

As a Senior IT Product Manager, you will focus on managing products that offer critical business capabilities, ensuring delivery of high-quality solutions and smooth system operation, including production support.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Define and execute the product strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with stakeholder objectives, managing resources and budgets, conducting market analysis and user research, and driving continuous improvements while maintaining technical consistency and supporting business needs.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify business needs, analyses business processes, and document requirements, and the automation of operating procedures. Defines acceptance criteria and creates process flows or use cases to support system improvements and resolve complex and ambiguous challenges ensuring business requirements are effectively met.

  • Act as the primary liaison for stakeholders to coordinate changes and initiatives and provide regular progress updates while clearly communicating the product vision, strategy, and roadmap.

  • Lead and mentor agile cross-functional teams, providing guidance and fostering collaboration to achieve product goals. Oversee the full lifecycle of software releases and upgrades, enhance system reliability through DevOps and test automation, ensure compliance with IT and cybersecurity policies, assume contract manager role for vendor relationships and procurement activities, and drive operational efficiency with best practices and compliance.

  • Whenever deemed necessary, provide production support, including on-call coverage during evenings, weekends, and service windows, managing incident resolution processes, liaising with technical teams to troubleshoot issues, and ensure timely communication with stakeholders during service disruptions.

  • Whenever deemed necessary, represent the organization in discussions with external stakeholders to advance key initiatives.

  • Inform the Line Manager of major technology trends relevant to the business area for input into IT strategy.

  • Organize own work and, when required, help set objectives for the area of responsibility ensuring measurable contributions to the department’s success. Maintain product KPIs on various activities in accordance with departmental goals and objectives.

  • Keep the Line Manager informed of progress and difficulties in the discharge of duties through regular meetings, status reports, or other mutually agreed-upon methods.

  • Ensure that resources are used in an effective manner within the designated area, in cooperation with the Line Manager. Propose investments to the Line Manager and ensure cost-effectiveness within the area of responsibility.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A master's degree in information management, computer science, finance, or equivalent professional work experience.

  • Experienced with product management (including product strategy & roadmaps, financial budget management, development and testing) with very good understanding of agile methodologies

  • Strong experience with enterprise service management and/or related IT platforms (such as Service Now)

  • Strong user experience with a focus on the ability to distill group ideas pragmatically and address conflicts diplomatically

  • Strong analytical thinking to understand business needs and specify technical solutions including acceptance criteria and non-functional requirements

  • Exceptional communication skills to lead executive meetings and collaborate with stakeholders across the bank.

  • Ability to explore domains beyond current area of expertise.
