What will you do in this position? 

To support communication efforts of WFP in Palestine by performing coordination, administrative and specialized communications processes. Support the creation, planning and publication of communications content as well as media relations to maintain and enhance WFP’s visibility and reputation and supporting fundraising activities.

How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Head of Communications, the job holder will:

  • Provide coordination, administrative and specialised services, to support staff in the development, preparation and execution of communications campaigns for target audiences.
  • Monitor and coordinate materials, schedules, facilities and clearances, and provide support for special events and communications missions and projects.
  • Develop systems to monitor traditional and social media across Palestine and report relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies.
  • Work with teams across Partnerships and COM to fulfil partnerships and donor visibility requests.
  • Support local media requests and liaise with local journalists to raise visibility of WFP’s work across Palestine.
  • Support programme teams in reviewing communications materials for Social Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) and support in communications with communities and campaign development.
  • Under clear guidance, prepare content for traditional and social media platforms and networks, and printed materials, to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages and standards.
  • Under guidance, build capacity and knowledge on best communications and visibility practices for WFP staff and cooperating partners.
  • Manage and maintain records and databases, such as journalist and media outlet contact lists, to ensure the information is accurate, organised and readily available for others to access.
  • Respond to a variety of queries and requests for support, following standard processes, and obtaining guidance as required, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all enquiries.
  • Liaise with WFP staff and the media in a timely manner, to support aligned activities and an effective approach to communications within WFP.
  • Any other task as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

EDUCATION: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or related field is desirable.

EXPERIENCE: Five years or more experience in the field of Communications. Experience working in the media, or for the UN or an NGO highly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Media and communication expertise: Collates accurate and timely information presented in required format (i.e. written or visual materials) as well as verbally, to enable information flows and informed decision making on communications issues. 
  • Media and influencer relationship management: Demonstrates ability to respond to and/or escalate needs of media and influencers within own scope of responsibility to raise the profile of WFP, build relationships and further organizational aims. 
  • Specialized knowledge in communications: Uses sound theoretical and practical knowledge of communications concepts and tools to generate or facilitate the production of effective communication materials across various media including social media.
  • Communication strategy and planning: Demonstrates sound understanding of WFP communications strategy and effectively implements tailored media and communications plans which support the delivery of the strategy. 
  • Socio-political context: Demonstrates deep understanding of the multilateral/interagency environment and the dynamics in which WFP operates which influence approach to working, policy development and decision making.

LANGUAGES: Fluency in English and Arabic languages.
