To keep pace with the growth of the Nigeria Country Office, we are looking for a Programme Officer, Disability Inclusion. The position is based in Sokoto and the incumbent will work for 40 Hours/week.
This position is only filled locally, with contractual conditions of the respective country. An expatriation is not intended.

These are your responsibilities
- Conduct accessibility and inclusion assessments of schools, learning spaces, and WASH facilities.
- Ensure learning environments (formal and non-formal) are safe, inclusive, and barrier-free.
- Support identification, enrolment, and retention of children with disabilities, including out-of-school children.
- Facilitate community-based identification and referral of children with disabilities.
- Promote awareness on the rights of children with disabilities and inclusive education.
- Ensure WASH facilities are accessible (e.g., gender-sensitive latrines, handwashing stations)
- Promote inclusive hygiene promotion activities tailored to children with disabilities.
- Train teachers, facilitators, and community volunteers on inclusive education approaches.
- Build staff capacity on disability inclusion, safeguarding, and protection mainstreaming.
- Support development and use of inclusive teaching materials and assistive devices where feasible.
- Ensure all infrastructure meets universal design and accessible principles.
- Work with community leaders, parents, and caregivers to reduce stigma and discrimination of children with disabilities.
- Monitor water quality and functionality of WASH facilities.
- Collaborate with WASH team to address specific barriers affecting access and dignity.
- Support development of inclusive indicators and data collection tools (disaggregated by disability, age, gender).
- Track participation, enrolment, attendance, and retention of children with disabilities.
- Document lessons learned, good practices, and case studies.
- Ensure accountability mechanisms are accessible to children with disabilities.
- Ensure gender and disability inclusion is integrated into child protection and safeguarding mechanisms.
- Identify and address protection risks faced by children with disabilities.
- Strengthen referral pathways for specialized services (health, psychosocial support, rehabilitation).
- Ensure internal alignment with relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate with local authorities, disability-focused organizations, and education stakeholders.
- Represent the project in inclusion-related coordination forums.
- Support alignment with national inclusive education policies and ECHO guidelines.
These are your qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Disability Studies, Rehabilitation Science, Psychology, Sociology, Development Studies or related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in disability inclusion, inclusive education, or humanitarian programming.
- Experience in Education in Emergencies, WASH, and/or protection programming.
- Familiarity with ECHO or similar donor requirements is an added advantage.
- Experience in providing support to local partners or working with donor organizations.
- Prior experience with international development organizations or programs that have both national and community-level engagement.
- Fluency in oral and written communication skills; particularly in English language is a must and knowledge of local language is an advantage.
- Familiarity with ECHO guidelines, Sphere Standards, and humanitarian principles is an asset.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while juggling and coordinating multiple/conflicting priorities and deadlines.
- Microsoft Office Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) and good report writing skills.
- Ability to integrate into a multi-cultural environment.
- Must be proactive, seeking to do things differently, and to solve problems effectively and efficiently.
- Ability and willingness to learn and travel frequently to project locations.
- Able to work independently, and as a member of a team.
- Identification with Christian values and the mandate of CBM.
