Overview of position

Background our client:

Our client is a supported project and plays a pivotal role in supporting the coordination of humanitarian mine action efforts. Our client provides vital technical support in areas such as Quality Management, Operations Coordination, Information Management, Planning and Priority setting, Gender & Diversity Inclusion, as well as Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) and Victim Assistance (VA) services to the Mine Action Programme of Afghanistan (MAPA) and Directorate of Mine Action Coordination (DMAC).

Role objectives

Role objectives:

The IMSMA Core Associate will be responsible for 1) supporting the transition from IMSMA Ng to IMSMA Core; 2) the technical management of IMSMA Core, including system configuration, database management, integration with other tools, and user support, and 3) ICT support tasks. The role supports accurate, timely, and secure data management, while also contributing to analysis, reporting, and visualization of mine action data for operational and strategic decision-making

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. IMSMA Core System Development and Configuration 

  • Customize and configure IMSMA Core modules, forms, and workflows
  • Support system upgrades, patches, and new releases
  • Develop and maintain system extensions and scripts
  • Ensure system functionality aligns with operational needs

2. Database Management

  • Administer and maintain the IMSMA Core database (PostgreSQL/SQL)
  • Ensure data integrity, validation rules, and consistency
  • Perform regular system backups and data recovery procedures
  • Support data migration from legacy systems where required
  • Produce monthly consolidated datasets.
  • Support the maintenance of the Mine Action Hotline database (ensuring proper structure and organization, secure access controls, regular backups and recovery mechanisms, etc.)

3. Knowledge management

  • Conduct training sessions for MAPA personnel
  • Develop user manuals, training materials, and guidelines
  • Provide ongoing mentoring and technical support to MAPA stakeholders

4. ICT Operations & Technical Support

  • Provide first-line technical support for hardware and software-related issues for the MATC
  • Maintain ICT inventory and asset management systems.

Qualifications required

Essential

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar field

Desirable

Master’s degree in Computer Science or similar field

Years’ experience

Essential

  • At least 5 years of proven experience in information management, data processing, ICT Support, System Administration or similar field
  • Experience with database systems such as PostgreSQL and SQL, including data querying, optimization, and maintenance

Desirable

  • Experience with IMSMA (NG and/or Core)
  • Experience in data analysis, reporting, and visualization
  • Experience developing scripts, automation tools, or system integrations (e.g., APIs)

Languages

  • English: Intermediate proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Pashto or Dari: Full fluency in speaking, reading, and writing.
