Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP’s Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. This post is located in UNEP / Ecosystems Division / Biodiversity, Landscapes and People Unit/ Convening of Nature for Health project. The intern(s) will be under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager, Nature for Health Project, within the Biodiversity, Landscapes and People Unit and will work closely with various UNEP Divisions and Regional Offices. The intern(s) will: • Assist the Nature for Health (N4H) Team in organizing meetings and workshops, including preparing documents and managing logistics, to support the projects activities and achieve programmatic results; • Support in developing key communications materials, in print, online and for social media; • Support in drafting technical documents; • Assist with communication with partners, consultants, implementers etc. on programmatic activities to support programmatic results; • Support in the undertaking of targeted desktop research to compile background information, facts, data and other pieces to inform technical inputs; • Assist in tracking key policy developments; • Support in other tasks as required, and in accordance with the intern's interests and experience.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Master's Degree or currently enrolled in a Master's Programme in health sciences, One Health, environmental management, biodiversity conservation and management, development studies, social sciences or a related field is required; In addition to: Be computer literate in standard software applications. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Background in One Health, environmental management, biodiversity conservation and management, development studies, social sciences or a related field is required; Demonstrated experience in sustainable development is desirable; Experience in organising events, conferences or meetings is desirable; Excellent written and spoken communication skills are required;

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
